this app sucks. it's always sucked and somehow it sucks even harder this year.

just fuckin outsource the damned app to YouTube or something instead of making your fans furious at how much your streaming app sucks. it sucks and I hate it

it sucks.
I hate it.
I'm angry at this fucking app.

ESPN+ sucks for NHL out of market, but I think league pass is the worst of the bunch.

Hard concur.

Got it via my son’s purchase of NBA 2K.

Every time I put on a game, it freezes and/or goes grainy.

I am constantly bitching to my dogs about how much this thing sucks like LeBron does with the refs.

You can buy it through YouTube TV or your cable provider. You can still use their app through authentication, but you can also watch it through your telco's app/box.

They have no excuse. I’ve had it for years now. Years ago I paid for the sub but would use ballstreams more often than not. That went away so I was stuck with league pass or sketchier streams. League pass sucks so bad I just cancelled it. This cannot be hard.

streaming video is like a commodity now. how hard is it to just contract some ex Netflix people or whatever to get the basic features literally every other streaming service has? that work every time?

I lost my mind today realizing forward/rewind options disappear once you cast to the tv. and it randomly will stop casting and doesn't save where you were.

and that's just one bug. I have a list of a million more

We have all four major sports packages plus Peacock for soccer., and while I find ESPN+ frustrating, this understates the gulf between the two. ESPN+ makes it more difficult than I would like to find NESN's broadcast, and not carrying NHL TV is infuriating, but that's the extent of my gripes there. NBA League Pass is straight-up unreliable, which is exponentially worse.

Wait, if I buy through YTTV, can I watch it on YTTV? Does that improve the app issues? Cause yes, the app blows.

I sometimes buy NBA2K and sometimes buy league pass, but dont always buy both. If both were $100 I'd do it for sure. $150 feels steep and is giving me pause.

Ive also always hated that League Pass doesn't come with halftime studio coverage and instead shows me the empty floor.

As someone who was considering purchasing what are the major complaints here?
It has been very glitchy in the four or five seasons I've had it. It's *usually* not a problem, but compare that to MLB.tv where I never have a problem and the YTTV version of Sunday Ticket where I also never have a problem (as an aside, DirecTV's Sunday Ticket App was the biggest piece of shit of all--good fucking riddance). The one advantage over the other sports apps? NBA League Pass generally gives you whatever is on the Jumbotron at halftime, which means some bizarre and delightfully terrible halftime shows.

I bought it through YTTV last year and watched it through that service. I haven't used the League Pass app, but didn't have any issues with the YTTV stream so sounds like it's much better.

Sold! just cancelled and moved to YTTV. Plus just easier than the damn app for access. Didn't realize it was an option. Thanks all

Sorry, I meant how are you using the app? Maybe because I use my FireTV I haven't had major issues. Other than the usual inconvenience of not being able to switch between channels easily.
Ah, roku. But works fine via other Roku's in my house. It must be the Epson - I can't find any discussion of issues for other people on the net anywhere. All I know if I hate Amazon because literally every other thing works just fine on the Epson.

Not sure this is the right place for this but it seems generally related. I live in the Boston area and do not have cable. What are my Celtics games viewing options?
  • I do not think League Pass was an option for me because I am in market.
  • There are a number of sketchy streams available but that user experience is pretty crappy and I don't feel great about using them.
  • fuboTV seems to be an option as it carries NBC Sports Boston.
  • I did not think YTTV was an option but based on this thread maybe it is? I'm not certain whether that would work for me in market.
  • Other options?

There's some discussion in the "Cutting Cable" thread. I am going with Fubo this season because my only holdout was they don't have TNT/TBS, but MAX has added those channels free through February and I already have MAX.

YTTV is definitely an option. It has NBCSN and TBS/TNT so you'll get all the Celtics games. But they don't have NESN and FUBO does. And if I'm paying 80 bucks or so, I'm getting the B's too.

Hasn't been announced yet. My rep thinks it's likely.

I had no gripes last year but I didn't pay for it and mostly watched it in the background.
Just got it from my friend (who's local so is black outed but only watches Celtics so doesn't need it), in time for tonight's game!

It was sent by Club Green a few hours ago, he says.

Looks like I don't need it tonight either, ESPN.

I have never used League Pass, but bought a Celtics specific subscription this year so I can actually watch them play rather than just follow via an ESPN gamecast. It was pretty bumpy when I first logged on to my TV, but then was smooth sailing after that.

Are the main issues with the actual app and was last night's smooth playback an outlier? Wondering if I should cancel before my 7-day free trial ends.

FanDuel is running a promotion where bettors who wager $5 on the NBA can get three free months of League Pass. So for the price of the vigorish on a five dollar bet, you can get about half of the regular season.

https://press.fanduel.com/press-releases/press-release-details/2023/FanDuel-and-the-NBA-Partner-to-Bring-Fans-Three-Months-of-NBA-League-Pass/default.aspx
I have this promo code - does anyone know if there is a way to use the promo code for NBA LP through YouTube TV, as opposed to a standalone app? YTTV only seems to offer an option to subscribe (and pay) directly, but not to link to a pre-existing NBA LP account. Sorry for cross-post from the Cutting the Cord thread, but realized this might be the better audience.

As I understand it, you have to use the app… ran into the same question with Amazon (which I used last year, and it worked a million times better than the app).

That said, the app has been much better this season — pleasantly surprised.

I figured as much, thanks. As a local Celtics fans, my hope was to be able to flip between C's games (blacked out on LP) and other games within YTTV, but less likely I will use it much if I have to switch apps to do so.

If you have YTTV it is integrated. Local game will be on, afaik

edit: are local Cs games on YTTV? Regional stuff in NY market is sketch. We used to get it all but lost SNY and YES

I have the same issue with games blacked out. Thankfully, we’ve got Hulu Live, which has NBC Sports Boston, so we can catch the Celtics. We use the app to watch everyone else (we watch a ton of hoops in our house).

Yeah it was annoying I couldn't load the game on my phone so I had to wait to get home and watch it on my laptop.
