Just consolidating non-basketball discussions.

  • Rumored $76B deal that doubles their previous media rights package
  • ESPN keeps their package but with less games. Finals will be on ABC.
  • Amazon gets a large package with regular season games and playoffs
  • COMCAST/NBC leader in the clubhouse for the last package.
  • TNT in serious trouble of keeping their cable fees high if they lose NBA rights
  • Inside the NBA guys can opt out if Warner loses NBA rights but Ernie Johnson unlikely to leave the network.

Amazon will acquire “exclusive access” to a full night of NBA games each week of the regular season as part of its expected rights deal with the league, John Ourand of Puck reported Thursday. Though the games would be available only through the Prime Video service, it is expected that Amazon would rely on local RSN crews to produce the broadcasts.

NBA media rights values have increased by roughly 3X every decade. For folks who have already hit 100 and 1k baggers.

More importantly it will be interesting to see how this impacts the opt out after the 28-29 season. Given that they effectively exceeded the numbers they had been forecasting, I wonder if the players may demand more.
