You know why they don't? Here's the list of lefties averaging over 92 mph with more than 100 IP this year:I wish they would just convert Ball to the outfield. His hitting looked as good or better than his pitching.
Don't know if Shawaryn got scratched or they just gave us bad info, but he isn't pitching tonight.Mata and Shawaryn tonight on a light schedule.
Also noticed Williams Jerez has been pretty good lately. Last 14 games, 23.0 ip, 17h, 2er, 5bb/25k. 0.78 era, .205/.258/.229. Season to date, he has a 3.16 ERA in 51.1ip with 47k/17bb. That includes a 1.1ip, 7h, 8er performance. Take that one performance out and he has an era of 1.80 over 50 innings this year.
Does this mean Chavis to AAA soon? The other thread had him starting to learn first base. Odd to promote Ockimey if they keep Chavis in Portland.Per Chris Hatfield - Ockimey to Portland.
"Wow. Didn't see this coming. Ockimey to Portland. Looked in June like he was headed for another 2nd half swoon, but recovered in July some."
They'll probably rotate Chavis between 1b/DH/3b.Does this mean Chavis to AAA soon? The other thread had him starting to learn first base. Odd to promote Ockimey if they keep Chavis in Portland.
Well that's good to see.First round pick Tanner Houck pitched for Lowell tonight. 43 pitches over 3 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 4 Ks.
He will be with the big club by the end of the month I betand 24...
I'd say September 1st is much more likely, unless you think they'll be waiving Chris YoungHe will be with the big club by the end of the month I bet
Overall Castillo has a 3.1% walk rate this year. He's not the extreme groundball hitter he was at the beginning, so his average and power have improved a lot, but I have doubts about his overall approach translating if he can't draw walks at all.Groome's game does a lot to make you forget his ERA is 7.90. That type of domination suggests that the stuff really is as special as the hype.
And you have to hand it to Castillo this year. He could have sulked and collected his money. But he went out there and made himself a better ball player. Lately, even the BB are picking up a little. But for his contract, there has to be some team that would give him a shot. I wonder if there's any escape from his purgatory.
Brentz really should be a September call up. How do they get him back on the 40 man?
Agreed, If he has even a decent finish to the year, he's got to be a top 50 guy at the end of the season. Looking at his numbers over his 3+ years (including 2016 being a dud of a short year for him), the Ks and BBs are going in the right direction, even as he's moved from Greenville to Salem to Portland. Assuming Devers is the Sox 2018 third baseman, they may be looking at finding Chavis a new or another position next year in AAA.Chavis just hit another home run. So, to tally it up, he is a 21 year old former first round pick who now leads the minors in home runs at AA, where he is nearly 3 years younger than the rest of the league.
My point is that I'm starting to feel he is vastly underrated on most listings.
He's extremely underrated. He's a top 25-50 prospect and will probably be rated in the 70-100 range. And does he have the most HR in the minors combined? It's disingenuous to say he leads AA in HRs.Chavis just hit another home run. Just a wording thing. He leads combined. My point was that he's currently in AA and just not that far from the bigs. He's extremely underrated. That's still amazing given his age. 27 seems like a rather low number though. Thanks for clarifying.Just a wording thing. He leads combined. My point was that he's currently in AA and just not that far from the bigs.
I think that's about accurate. Willie Calhoun is another bat first guy without a real position (5'9'' too) and he was ranked 75th from Baseball America at the mid point. He has slashed .298/.357/.574 in AAA but is a year older. He's extremely underrated. He's a top 25-50 prospect and will probably be rated in the 70-100 range. I think he has a super funky delivery that close don't think translate. I don't know, only time will tell.Bobby Poyner's stats with Portland are insane. What do we have there?
Sox Prospects did a Scouting Scratch article on him a few days ago. He has little pedigree having been drafted after his senior year in the 14th round, so he's fighting an uphill battle to prove that he's legit. Sounds like none of his pitches really overwhelm hitters, but throws a lot of strikes with a deceptive delivery that results in an overall effective package.Bobby Poyner's stats with Portland are insane. What do we have there?
What an incredible disappointment. He wasn't fooling anyone. Lots and lots of hard contact. Actually had a couple of nice defensive plays behind him to limit the damage.
