*You know what your defense did last night? It pitched 8 scoreless inns and gave up a 3-run HR in the 9th to lose 3 to 2. You don't come off the mound saying, 'we pitched great'.*
You can if you're John Lackey

Exact quote when asked if Sandusky has children:

"He's got a whole house full. He's got adopted kids, he's got foster kids, he's got girls, he's got boys, he's got white kids, he's got black kids, he's got everything in the house."

It sounded like he was describing a car dealership..."Hey folks! We've got used kids, new kids, black, white - every make and model! C'mon down!"

Mike was actually measured today. He put the defense third out of the three parts of the team in terms of blame. He said Sanchez took a beating. He did point out Rex giving "kudos" to the defense after that last drive belng ludicrous. He hung up on Giants and Broncos fans before they talked. He pointed out again and again that a competent offense wins that game in a walk last night.

He is just teeing off right now. Great stuff
"Did Tannenbaum have a book of management cliches in front of him? (in a mocking voice) 'I'm going to measure twice and cut once.' And Rex 'this is how I've always done things.' He's been a head coach for three years, three years!! That was the worst press conference I've ever heard!"

Lighting up "Mr. T." and Rex again ... Shut up already!

Facell and Billick won Super Bowls and can't get back in the League. Move on! You collapsed like a cheap suit ... This is your last day in the sun ... Move on and leave us alone!

2 gems from today's show:

Mike corrected a caller for claiming that the Texans went for 2 at the end of their game with Tennessee...he didn't know know until his producer whispered in his headset...then he fluffed it off by saying once the Jets game ended there was no reason for him to watch that game...

Also...he hinted that with his contract being up after the 2014 Super Bowl...it might be a good time to "ride off into the sunset"...

Where it rains. No, seriously.
Also...he hinted that with his contract being up after the 2014 Super Bowl...it might be a good time to "ride off into the sunset"...
Paraphrasing:

"I make a point never to talk about my contract. But it does end after the 2014 Super Bowl. Again, I don't talk about my contract, I'm just saying. Who knows what will happen when my contract is up? I never discuss my contract, ever, ever, ever."

Later in the show:

"I hear it's already becoming a story. It was just an off-the-cuff comment."

After the show, he talks to Newsday about it.

We might be able to squeeze one more day out of this because there is much buzz in NYC about Peyton > J-E-T-S. Which will piss Francesa off because he thinks everyone associated with this team should now STFU.

Mike ought to ask "Mr. T" about this, courtesy of PFT.com. Yowza --

It’s gotten so bad in the Jets’ locker room that the rookie third-string quarterback is unloading on his teammates.

Greg McElroy, a seventh-round draft pick who spent his first year in the NFL on injured reserve after suffering a thumb injury in the preseason, went back home to Alabama this week and promptly did an interview with 97.3 The Zone in which he trashed the culture of the Jets.

“It’s definitely not a fun place to be, I can assure you,” McElroy said of the Jets’ locker room. “It’s the first time I’ve ever been around extremely selfish individuals. And I think that’s maybe the nature of the NFL. But there were people within our locker room that didn’t care whether we won or lost as long as they got theirs, they had a good game individually. And that’s the disappointing thing.”

McElroy didn’t mention any of those “extremely selfish individuals” by name, but he was responding to a question about the reports regarding Santonio Holmes being a divisive figure in the locker room, and he didn’t say anything to suggest those reports are erroneous.

But McElroy, who was a well-respected team leader with a reputation as a fine scholar-athlete at Alabama, said he loves Jets coach Rex Ryan and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and believes the current coaching staff will turn the team around.

“It’s going to take a lot to kind of come together next year,” McElroy said. “I think the fact that we struggled at times this year really led to a really corrupt mindset within the locker room. But I think we’re going to regroup and I know that we’ll be a better team because of the trials and tribulations this year.”

Delayed till 5:20

Edit: but I tuned in just in time to hear Mike say that a college football is "milliliters" different in size than the NFL ball. Good times.

Mike hits "Mr. T" with the audio of the McElroy interview right out of the box!

Mr. T sounds contrite and humble. Mike lights into recruiting guys without character.

EDIT -- God, Mike is killing him ... "You're hanging your hat too much on those two title games!"

Tanny sounds like a student called to the principal's office being threatened with a suspension.

Now he's killing Tanny about Rex's guarantees.

Got to hand it to Mike -- nobody in Boston has the balls to handle an interview this way (Felger is an admitted coward).

Tannenbaum was totally unprepared for that line of attack - stumbling and bumbling through his answers.

He 'brought concepts and ideas to the table.' Mr. T isn't really answering the question, despite Mike's argument about the decline of the Jets offense from 2010-11.

EDIT - Hahaha, Mike mocks Tannenbaum's bromides: 'you seem to like these quotes, how about "too many cooks ruins the broth"?'

Any chance Russo would take Mike's spot if he were to retire after the 2014 SB? I admittedly don't know Russo's contract situation.

LOVED the exchange about Tom Moore. Best part was Tannenbaum responding to Francesa's question of what Tom Moore could have added if Sanchez went backward, and Tanny says, "yeah, he (Sanchez) didn't have a good year". It was a tiny slip up in the interview, but after all the talk of "Sanchez has improved in every area from 2009-2011", "he is our QB", etc. etc., it was pretty glaring.

I hope he's around today, unlike yesterday, for the opening cause it should be awesome (see Jets thread). It will be tinged with faux sadness ("it's a SHAME this should distract us from the Giants"), but that's just going to fuel the "I-told-you-sos".

where I was last at
maybe Tanny will come back for round 2 to explain the recent house-cleaning

I expect FFF will kill the Tanny and the Jets today, and perhaps replay some of last week's interview

Francesa just announced that he has to change the name of his radio show (Mike'd Up) because NBC owns the name of the Sunday night show he used to host and CBS & NBC couldn't reach agreement on a deal to let him keep the name. New name/jingle by tomorrow possibly...

It's "Mike's On" and the jingle is exactly same except for that tweak.

Oh yeah, and he said Mike Martz was victimized by the Pats cheating in Super Bowl XXXVI. His proof? Marshall Faulk and a bunch of Rams said that the only way the Pats could have beaten them was if they already knew what plays the Rams were running. As if that sort of arrogance itself couldn't have been a contributing factor to their loss.

Ya, knowing the Rams defensive plays sure helped shut down the Rams offense...oh, no wait, that doesn't make any sense. Well, they sure were instrumental in that Ty Law interception for a TD...no, that doesn't make any sense either. Well, at the very least, we know they were the difference on that last hurry-up FG drive, when the offense calls their play before the defense does...hmm, nope.

Stupid people say stupid things. Sadly, stupid people also repeat them.

Mike's usually pretty fair when it comes to the Pats. He openly admits that he hates Belichick, but will give him his due praise. Never heard this stuff about Martz being victimized before, but I haven't been a regular listener for a while.

Also, last I heard on the show, Francesa and Parcells weren't speaking, after being friends for a long time. Wonder if they ever made up.

Isn't Mike a Giants fan? (Serious question - I don't listen too often, forgive me if he's a Jets fan).

And if so, shouldn't Giants fans love Belichick?
