He was very complimentary on their game yesterday on his Sunday show. Of course he said he was rooting for the Pats yesterday so the Jets would then play the Colts and then they would see the real Colts.

he has been KILLING the Jets for a week now in his usual pompous fashion.

Will he eat crow? I doubt it. insert fat joke here.

When he states that a team isn't very good and then they win anyway, Mike doesn't eat crow as much as he re-writes history to position himself as the wise old sage of the sports world. As an example, I fully expect him to mention that his pessimism about the Jets was based more on the fact that they had been unproven (going up against teams that were not playing at full strength.) Of course, this will lead directly into a rant about how "you can't take weeks off in the NFL and hope to just turn it on in the playoffs. So even if the Jets weren't playing top teams the past two weeks, they were executing at a high level and the Bengals found out the hard way that you just can't turn it off and turn it on at will..." Hell, I can almost hear him say it.

So yeah, he'll admit he was wrong, but that admission will be buried under his bombast about how this was more about the Bengals than the Jets, and next week the Jets will find out how good they really are, etc.

This is in contrast to the times when Mike goes way out on a limb and is completely, 100% wrong with nowhere to hide. On these occaisions, he simpy denies or ignores history.

Somehow the topic of Roman Polanski came up Friday...Mike went on to say no way should they let him back in the country as there's no excuse for what he did even if it was 30 years ago. Was hoping a caller or producer would clue Mike in that he doesn't want to come back to the U.S. to face charges.

True, but at least he knew Polanski didn't kill anybody...

From Larry King Live - 1/6/10

KING: Joining Lawrence Silver with us now is Debra Tate, Roman Polanski's former sister in law, the sister of the late Sharon Tate. On a personal note, I knew Sharon Tate. I had interviewed her a couple of months before her tragic murder. What do you want to see happen?

DEBRA TATE, FMR. SISTER IN LAW OF ROMAN POLANSKI: I would like to see this whole thing go away. I think that there has been a lot of time that has passed and we need to bring it to an end.

KING: Have you ever talked to Roman Polanski?

TATE: I have.

KING: How can you have a civil conversation with someone who so brutally murdered your sister?

TATE: Roman didn't murder my sister.

That is fall down laughing funny. I only hope that Larry just kept working his way down his moronic list of prepared questions and asked another guest if Polanski might get the death penalty for being in cahoots with the Mansons.

Mike heaping praise on John Wall today: "I've watched him a couple of times on tv and he's scary. He's Lebron James at 6'5". He's scary good. He's the best player to wear a college uniform since Jordan." He also predicted that he will go to the Hall of Fame. "He's going to be NBA royalty."

Jesus -- Mike is talking about the Mets today, and there's some discussion of signing Damon and moving Bay to centerfield, in a more or less serious way. He doesn't push it hard, but how can you even mention it? It's like talking about, well, let's just try Ortiz at shortstop.

Even funnier was how he dismissed Damon in CF out of hand. If I had those 2 guys I'd think the lesser of 2 large evils would be Damon in CF, Bay in LF. He also pondered Vernon Wells. Surprised he didn't mention other salary dump types, like Matthews Jr. or Rowand.

Wonder if Mike will praise the Jets more or kill the Chargers. Seeing as he dismissed any chance of the Jets getting anywhere past SD or Indy in the divisional round he better be ready to eat crow.

Do you think 'crow' is in his dictionnaire gastronomique ?

I don't see it happening; expect him to dismiss the Jets advance to 'anything can happen' in the playoffs.

I fucking HATE when he goes into his favorite game of manipulate the caller into a bullshit yes/no question. Fucking 3rd grade bully bullshittery.

When Russo tweaks the fans in a show like this you can tell he's having a bit of fun and it's comical. This is just a alpha male posturing bullshit, IMO.

EDIT: And excellent point vtred, was about to mention the Cards too. Nice pickup.

That was VERY hard to listen to today.

Fatso with his arrogance + callers POed at him bad mouthing the Jets for weeks = two guys on the radio talking over each other most of the time.

And of course its not a fair fight, what with Mike having control of the volume and the hang up. Today is the sort of day when he really, really needs a Russo as his equal, not a bunch of lambs being led to the slaughter.

For me the worst part was how he spent 5 minutes playing all the opponent missed field goal actualities against the Jets, then he launched into a 5 minute explainer about how the NFL was a copycat league and that everyone will now go to school on the Jets FG defense. He was so obviously taking the piss but when Jets fans chimed in to call him on it he denied taking the piss! Are you kidding me!? At least have some fun with it like Russo would have. What a complete arrogant jerk. I turned it off soon after and I won't be listening again until next week.

I have to say I had a guilty pleasure in it. Whatever screws with Jets fans is fine with me -- I don't even really care if it's fair or not. Mouthbreathers. It's fun to see them in a lather, and getting further and further out on the REX RYAN IS A COACHING GOD branch.

As the week has gone on these Jet fans in their lather are seeming to forget two things: (1) Peyton Manning is the QB on the other team and every time I saw him this year when he HAD to score he took his team right down the field for a TD, including vs the Jets at 10-9 and (2) no matter what, the Jets won that game ONLY because the Colts tanked the game. Manning was picking them apart on the last drive before he exited. The Colts also rested some defensive starters that day. And 7 of those Jet points were on a kick return. I'm not a fan of either team and not a Giants fan, but I've always rooted for the Jets because they remind me of the pre-2004 Red Sox with their history. But their fans are now insufferable and, like many Giant fans that might otherwise back them in this game, they are making me sick with their guarantees and the idea that the Colts won't show up or will show up and crumble in the face of Rex the Genius. I'm with Fat Mike, I don't see how the Jets win this against an interested, motivated Colts team. Like Mike, I see the Jets as a 7-7 team that lucked into the playoffs, beat a lifeless Cincy team and then upset a spooked Norv Turner-led Charger team. They deserve credit for the SD game but this is another level now. It will be a monumental upset if Manning loses this game at home and I just don't see it.

I don't get tired of Mushnick vitriol towards Francesa. Mike'd Up is unlistenable.

Those few remaining callers still inclined to voice dissent or, heaven forbid, correct him, have, of course, been ridiculed and shouted down -- a maneuver we have come to often know as Francesa's way of saying, "Ya got me."

I actually think he'll go the Peyton was too much route and that the Jets just ran out of gas. Three road wins was too tall of an order for this team, etc.

...Aaand here come the Jet apologists saying Donald Strickland and Shonn Greene going out were the reasons for the loss... Mike should be in his glory for the next 5 hours.

Per Neil Best at Newsday...Francesa admits that last years Super Bowl week decision to not be on "Radio Row" with everyone else was a bad idea and takes the blame for it...and will return to Radio Row this year...

and no winner today of 'Mike and the Marquis' circa 2010 and Mike was lobbing softballs at the end of all questions he's already asked...even giving people way more time than usual...but no winners.

I just wish he'd put a cork in it about the Sports Foundation dinner. I used to have to write the player bios for that program every year and it was hell on earth as a Red Sox fan to be so glowing about the participants. I'd try to sneak in some negative stuff wherever possible but it rarely made it past the goalie.

Hmm, I think I've heard him say whatever that was he said before, and I'm about as sure it wasn't "fuck" as I am that Greenie didn't say "coon". Still, it's funny because Francesa's such a tool.

In all fairness to FAN and YES...probably a good strategic move.

If you really want to avoid Mike you're really gonna' have to try to avoid Mike...

Of course...walking around the city block that is Mike Francesa is a challenge unto itself.

Now Mike and Kim Jones discussing A-Rod for the last 20 minutes and how he can "just go about his business" after "a huge weight has been lifted off of his shoulders." Isn't it Super Bowl Week?
