Bad news for Mets haters, Cohen's unlimited funds and Stearns' knowhow is a scary combo.

Sorry to seem like I'm directing this to you (I'm not):

I'm no Mets hater --- but if I had a dime for every instance that the 'SABR illuminati' got excited about these "brilliant" front-office guys running an organization...

I'd be retired by now.

My two cents - Max and Verlander combo was an excellent move that didn't work out. What would this guy have done differently (in this scenario) that anybody would have done given the availability of those two pitchers and the owner's funds?

My guess? Nothing.

Well, that’s two moves out of maybe 100 that a director of baseball operations makes each year.

As for your dimes, I think the last time a front office guy this impactful moved was Friedman to the Dodgers in 2014, that worked out pretty well.

Craig Counsel doesn’t have a contract after this season. Nightengale has reported that Counsel has told friends he will likely take a year off. If Showalter misses the playoffs again next season, you would think Counsel would be Stearn’s first call.

Can someone give me the summary of why Stearns is so highly-regarded? Not trying to dispute it, just that to me it's not blatantly obvious (as compared to someone like Friedman or Theo)--the Brewers have never been a juggernaut at the MLB level or prospect-wise as far as I could tell. Is it more him getting credit for the Astros?

MIL made the postseason just four times in franchise history between 1969 (their first season) and 2017, then four years in a row under Stearns (2018-2021) before barely missing last year and then winning the division again this year.
