Burnley runs out of gas, let Bournemouth run the counter far too easily. This one is over.

Much appreciated, especially because I fucking hate Moz.
How did you get all the way to hating Moz? 'Cause I really want to hate, too. In the 80s, he was (partially responsible) for some lovely music, taught a generation of boys it was ok to like poetry and have feelings. And now he's a fascist.

I want to hate Moz, but I just can't get there because he was so important to getting through those angsty teenage years.

When I was a young man, I was among the self-styled small town punks who lived by that particular aesthetic Puritanism and moral code. The Smiths were soft and suspect, Smiths fans were (insert deeply regrettable slurs & cuss words).

As I got older and outgrew that childish phase, I came to like the Smiths, even if I found Morrisey’s affectations pretty laughable.

Then about a decade ago, I started coming across some real racist, piece of shit stuff coming from Moz. Chinese people are a “sub-species.” “Every race prefers their own people.” Backing an anti-Muslim candidate. He’s another of these old rock stars that have curdled into something vile and despicable, exactly the kind of person he would have mocked in his youth. Blecht.

I never really loved him to start, so it’s much easier to hate him now.

Still, nice to hear a bit of Joy Division.

Mate, I love The Smiths. The music still holds up. But as 67Yaz says Moz revealed himself to be something of a racist. He started wearing a For Britain badge. For Britain are a dodgy right wing anti immigration fringe party/organisation. Moz also condemned the treatment of Far Right Piece of Shite Tommy Robinson. And all this came out after Moz moved to a lovely big house in Los Angeles and rarely sets foot in grey old Manchester.

So I did a “Tom Robinson (as in “2-4-6-8”) is a far right piece of shit?” double take and then a “Ohhhh! That Tommy Robinson.” He is definitely a piece of shit.

I loved The Smiths. Saw them at the Opera House in 1985 or so. They were great. I still listen occasionally. There is no way I could listen to Morrissey’s solo career or give the guy a nickel now. Dead to me.

I had thought it a foul on first view. But it was outside the box and the subsequent City goal came a minute or so afterwards so it would have been difficult for VAR to call it back.
It probably did not rise to the "clear and obvious" standard yeah, but was not far from being a potential DOGSO situation if Rashford had kept at full pace.
Reminded me of a similar situation in a Liverpool / United match a few years back. Rashford scored on a counter, generated by Origi getting his ankled nibbled at, not considered severe enough by VAR I imagine

IMO, this is one where the VAR will not reverse the foul call either way and the ref won't give the foul precisely because he isn't sure if it will be DOGSO. He doesn't want an iffy foul call to end up turning into a match-deciding red card and so errs on the side of no call. I think I'm largely OK with that just under the principle of don't make match altering red card decisions unless its truly deserved.

I'm watching this thinking Sheffield Utd should get in about Arsenal, rough em up a bit. But it's Arsenal who are the more physical, which is to their credit cos they have all the quality to go with the hard edge.

Edit: Bogle got my memo and went in...got a lot of the man and a yellow for his troubles.

To you, and to 67Yaz, too, I think we're on the same page. And I did say in my first post Moz is a fascist. It's just hard watching someone who brought you such joy (or at least comfort) go so far astray. But thanks for the Joy Division reference, too.
