Okay, no more, no more...couldn't give a fuck about the players, but those Villa fans have suffered enough. Six nil drubbing at home on Valentines Day...

Edit: I'm talking domestic violence.

Yeah, Villa are absolutely horrific, but I would really enjoy that starting 11 staying healthy and getting a few games together.

I missed it at the time, but Margaret Aspinall announced in January that this April 15 will be the last Hillsborough memorial service at Anfield. She says the families' consensus is that they can move on. JFT96 actually happened.

The draw for the Europa League round of 16 is tomorrow. There is no country protection for the rest of the tourney, so Spurs or the Mancs are a possibility. The way these draws tend to wind up, I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being Dortmund.

On to Wembley...

Anything to slow down the accumulation of English coefficient points, I suppose.

And did anyone else think that was a really soft penalty call in the 4th minute? Nobody threw a nutty worthy of Larry Bowa, so maybe I just missed a blatant one, but it just looked like two defenders crashed into each other and the ball fell largely untouched before a missed shot.

Liverpool had to play Chelsea seemingly every year in Europe for a while, knocked Arsenal out one year, and even played Spurs in the UEFA Cup, but I Liverpool and Manchester United have never played in a continental competition.

On the penalty, you see something like that called when a defender jumps, gets his arm away from his body, and knocks the ball down. Normally is doesn't involve the defender running into his own guy, but that's what happened here.

That ball would actually have hit Mig's leg had he let it.

I'm not a professional nor could I ever play at a fraction of this level. Maybe the instruction changes at higher levels, but we were always taught that gravity isn't fast to assist a dive down around the legs. It's part of the ugly save zone- get something on it with a foot, clear it if you can. Mignolet went for the hold and got nothing.

And that(better reaction times)´s one of the differences between an amateur goalie and a professional. That was just a reflex, because he is trained to bring his body down. He should have gotten to the ball, it was a mistake and that´s it. What nobody says in here: the defenders (i didn´t see the replay often enough to see who it was) - especially the one who got overrun - looked bad, too. And if Mignolet makes the save, the ball could fall/bounce right in front of the goal and someone could score an easy goal, that´s a tough save to handle it really good.
He still made a few good saves to keep Liverpool in the game. I am really looking forward to a possible penalty kicking... :)

Apparently Lucas managed to hurt his quad while missing his penalty in the League Cup Final and will be out 5-6 weeks.

And that is a shame. I've always liked Lucas .. he's an incredibly loyal soldier who just does what he's asked. His recent (temporary?) conversion to CB seems like something that should prolong his Anfield career. I can't see him staying as just a DM - surely there are affordable upgrades available. But one would think Klopp would love to have a jack-of-all-trades defensive player ready to plug in as needed. I'd sure rather have him around than Skirtle.

Well, that was fun.

If not for de Gea, the tie would be all but over. 2 up and no away goals for them is nice, though.

Big match coming up this weekend away to Southampton.

Moreno looks like a no-go, so I would expect Clyne on the left and Flanagan on the right.

With 1-2 games in hand on everybody above them, this is a last gasp at an outside chance at #4. Considering the Dortmund draw, it's tough to rely on Europa as a way back into the CL.

A win Sunday and a draw in the Manchester derby leaves Liverpool 5 points out of 4th with a game in hand.

Yeah that was a stonewall penalty for me.

Given what's happened since I'll happily take it.

And now a garbage disallowed goal for Sakho being offside and deemed "impeding" makes up for the non-penalty corner. That was NHL-esque

Watching a couple replays now, looks indeed like the right call... Sakho's attempted flick is also not helping.

I guess the interval between the flag going up and East acknowledging it made it seem less legitimate, somehow

Very much the right call. Also thought the non-penalty call was the right one. Lovren put his hands on Long but didn't really impede him. Long was going down the instant he felt contact. Still - at full speed that's called at least 50%of the time.

'Pool could have had 5 that half.
