Putting two and two together, Pete Sheppard said something about ESPN radio going full time on WEEI (or at least I thought that's what he was alluding to) which may be the rumors that T+R are alluding to as well.

Which would be a good thing, in my opinion.  D+C actually did a "Marathon Bomber conspiracy theory" show for my entire morning drive, presumably because the Globe did that story which allowed them to try to stretch it into a full show.  It was absolutely brutal radio, possibly the worst thing I've heard in my life.  They were obviously trolling the conspiracy nutjobs, who took the bait and called in, so they could then try to shout them down about how incoherent they are.  Nobody wins.

T&R were on a commercial break when Callahan said something about Minihan hanging out with Fred over the weekend.

I was away last week when all the Stern stuff happened, is there something new going on between D&C and T&R?

Beside the #sportsdebate?

Minihan challenged Fred to a sports debate last week and Fred went on an epic rant about how big of a loser Minihan was. Not sure if you caught that or not last Thursday.

It's at the end of "Rich Goes to the Movies".
This is from the T+R thread. Just check out the link, listen to Fred's rant (bottom audio) first, then the Sports Debate: The Movie clip. Both are classic T+R.

His Twitter feed is truly something to behold.

Anyway, he seems to be claiming that that other account was some secret account Bertrand was using to post anonymously, and now he's deleted it because Dennis is onto him. I'm sorry, this shit is entertaining.

I think if any of us acted like John Dennis does on twitter towards a competitor in our own industry we would have been canned long ago.  Even pro athlete's and actor's can't get away with what he does and not have ramifications.

It's really really odd.

Did they pull the audio from the T&R page? I can find it in Google and get a page not found, but it's not on the T&R site???

I love how Dale straight up admitted this morning that they would rather talk about negative things like A-Rod than Peavy having a good start. I switched right to T&R after that. No wonder their ratings suck.

I heard that exchange and it baffled me. Dale said something like, " I mean, what are we going to do, break down what the biggest pitches of the game were and why he chose to throw a particular pitch?"

As though that's insane.

I would absolutely like to hear people talk about the pivotal points of the previous game and why the Sox were or were not successful. But, I guess that would require knowing what you're talking about?

Dennis followed that up, agreeing, and said, "We like issues that aren't black or white, where there's gray to them, some meat on the bone," or whatever. Maybe Dale said that and Dennis agreed. Then, they used A-Rod and the steroid talk as an example.

But, really, there's pretty much zero gray area there at all: A-Rod is a douche-face and it's pretty well accepted now that steroid users are going to be wiped out of the game.

What they really like, as they later admitted, was a "fall from grace" story, or, as I like to call it, kicking people when they're down. That's always fun, isn't it?

I don't like to start my podcasts until I hit the highway so I can pay attention to them, and I tend to leave these clowns on for about 10 minutes till I get there. I'm not sure why I torture myself that way...

It took me awhile to notice that despite Callahan's ultra right wing and lover of all things justice & revenge he is a fucking teenage girl when it comes to gossipy 'he said she said' storylines.  Never mind the actual games, let's spend three days dissecting why Brady appeared to yell at someone on the sideline.
for fuck's sake.
enjoy your bed bitches.

Interesting, considering Dale's reputation as boring (I never agreed -- Dale & Holley is my all-time favorite Boston sports radio show). He must have been repeating company line, a line he's probably told ad nauseous every time he guest hosts on 'EEI.

It was really more of a general commentary regarding talk radio and conversation in general how it is easier to talk about negative stuff than positive because when everything is going well there isn't much to say.
Nothing earth shattering and surprising it even got brought up in here.

Heads up for what could be a listenable edition of the WEEI morning show tomorrow...Dale Arnold and Alex Speier sitting in.  If nothing else, they'll finally have someone on who knows what the fuck they're talking about baseball-wise.

Was excited to tune in this morning on ride to work after a huge extra inning win (and pretty much all the other AL contenders losing last night). Thinking there'd be some excitement about another great win, maybe talk about the under the radar solid season Victorino is having, but instead it's Callahan losing his mind about the "free pass Ortiz gets around here" because he didn't run hard out of the box on his double in the 10th last night.  Brutal.

I didn't see the game ... was it a close play? I mean, did it really matter that he didn't "run hard out of the box?" Should he have gone for a triple? What a thing to get worked up about. Then throw in Felger last week ripping Farrell for giving Ortiz a day off ... does anyone remember the guy had a pretty serious Achilles injury last year? Cut him a little slack, for god sakes.

I saw the highlights this morning. The CF jumped for the ball @ the wall, missed, and the ball rolled back behind him towards the IF. I tuned in right as they CF was jumping so i didn't even see who hit it and I thought to myself "oh, that could be 3". Then the camera cut and I saw ortiz pulling into 2nd and realized 3 was not an option.
Basically, if it had been a player with average speed, a 3b would have been a possibility, but given Ortiz's injury history and his general slowness, he cruised into 2b and probably shouldn't have entertained thoughts of 3rd

He did cruise into second (the old slow down and take the last 3-4 steps more or less at a walk cruise).  He also stood and admired for a moment at the plate before he started running.  The combination of which is what set Callahan off about his lack of hustle.  Bottom line is even if he broke out of the box on contact and ran hard through second base, he wasn't getting to third without it being an incredibly close play...particularly since it was Bautista, who has a strong arm, chasing down the ball.

Callahan seems to be at his best (which is the worst) when he's shitting on a player, especially when whatever he's shitting on the player for is either largely inconsequential or just downright wrong (he was also on Victorino as a bust for having "only" 37 RBI this season).  It's the cranky angry white man, sports edition, and it's horrible. I don't think taking Dennis away full time is going to make him better.  He needs to see the door too when the time comes.

I'm not as down on this show as most here and hope that the duo today will eventually be the full time show but the bolded drove me crazy. He was saying there is no way Voctorino is a $13m player because of only 7 HR and 37 RBI and for that kind of money you need more "production".
I didn't hear the rant on the Papi play but he did watch it for quite a while and if he had run hard from the start I do think he could have gotten to third. That said I can't get too worked up over it.

Can't expect anything better. This is the same person who the morning after the 2004 ALCS Game 7 victory, rather than celebrating the greatest comeback in baseball playoff history and the first Red Sox World Series in almost 20 years, decides to spend the start of the show whining and moaning about Francona putting in Pedro in relief when the game was completely out of hand.

Inserting Dale back into the show with Kirk and Callahan already back was overkill today.  The 2 man Kirk and Callahan worked fine.

I for one was glad that Dale was on this morning so he could babysit Minihan and Callahan when news of the murder broke.  While the two graceless clowns stumbled around for several seconds on the verge of saying something stupid and insensitive, Arnold immediately struck the appropriate somber tone.

No Boomer Esiason on Pats Mondays this season most likely b/c of his corporate ties to CBS. He'll probably resurface on 98.5

That's weird. He's been working for the CBS empire (CBS TV, WFAN, Showtime, Westwood One) throughout the time WEEI and WBZ-FM have coexisted. I don't know why CBS is all of a sudden holding him back. They must be pretty miffed at what ESPN does with their talent.

It's not like CBS is unique in trying to protect their brand within a market.  There was a time when ESPN disallowed all their personalities from appearing on WEEI (and any other non-ESPN station that shared a market with an ESPN affiliate).  This meant that Peter Gammons had to stop appearing on the Big Show despite years of doing a weekly spot, all so he could go on with Felger on 890 instead.

I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner.  Wonder if Boomer had a multi-year agreement independent of CBS that finally ran out?

Is this Day 4 of Gerry Callahan crying and moaning about being wronged by the Boston Globe?

As much as I hate to say it, he is correct about the-man-on-the-street thing, it shouldn't have been the writer's friends. And the writer probably should have disclosed that one of those guys is a former EEI intern. That's Journalism 101 right there. Writing man-on-the-street pieces suck because you have to walk up to a bunch of people and hope that they'll talk to you. Many don't want to or give lousy quotes or ignorant of what you're writing about.

Though it is funny that Callahan all of a sudden doesn't care about ratings any more, it's all about revenue. I can't wait to hear those promos now, "You're listening to WEEI, WE HAVE HIGHER REVENUE THAN ANYONE ELSE!"

TL;DR version: LOL Boo Hoo Callahan. The guy isn't a liar, he's just lazy ... sorta like someone else I once read.

They had me this morning, they were talking about the Somerville Hazing scandal and it's something that really hits home for me because my son would most likely be the kid that would be hazed if he plays high school sports because he's a smaller kid that would have a tough time fighting off 3 upperclassmen.  It was great radio hearing Gerry and Kirk rant against hazing and I wasn't going to change the channel until Minicalahane kept teasing the Globe thing and I had to turn it off, here is a hint to them, no one fucking cares anymore.

I don't care that he only interviewed his friends, I don't care that he interned at EEI however many years ago and I don't care that he didn't disclose any of that.  The gist of the story was that EEI is a sinking ship but instead all these two fucking clowns want to do is attempt to ruin his career.  Can you imagine any other show between the two stations doing this for four friggin days?

I caught about 4 minutes of the show on NESN this morning and Callahan was talking about baseball vs. football. he was lamenting the fact that pre-season football beat Red Sox ratings and that tomorrow's game (BAL-DEN) will likely beat Red Sox Yankees, even here in Boston.  Then he says "But Selig doesn't care because he's got 7 billion in revenue". I found it odd considering his week-long touting of WEEI's revenues

I would have loved to call in and ask if the Sox -Yanks ratings would beat the football game if you count Providence and Worcester.

The whole baseball-football debate is bullshit because ultimately, who cares? You like baseball, watch baseball. You like football, watch football. Flick the channels between both, it doesn't matter. Neither sport is going anywhere, ever.

I love baseball, but football is a way more popular game. Does that make me like baseball any less? No, of course not. I watch baseball during baseball season, football during football season and the same follows for basketball, soccer and hockey.

This debate is as dumb as Callahan crying about the Globe.

I was also disturbed by Callahan insisting on talking about that story today.  Like probably many, I switched over during what felt like a 20 minute commercial break from T+R, and Callahan was acting like he just broke fucking Watergate wide open.  His "evidence" wasn't even particularly convincing, and I think I literally changed back to 98.5 4 or 5 times while he was talking just dying for the commercials to be over.
