Since they won't shut up about this, I'd love to see Howard give them the John DeBella treatment.
This is from the T+R thread. Just check out the link, listen to Fred's rant (bottom audio) first, then the Sports Debate: The Movie clip. Both are classic T+R.John Marzano Olympic Hero said:"Sports Debate: The Movie" is fantastic. You should stop what you're doing and listen to it right now.

I think if any of us acted like John Dennis does on twitter towards a competitor in our own industry we would have been canned long ago. Even pro athlete's and actor's can't get away with what he does and not have ramifications.URI said:Do you really think John Dennis should be calling anyone fat?
KingPK said:I love how Dale straight up admitted this morning that they would rather talk about negative things like A-Rod than Peavy having a good start. I switched right to T&R after that. No wonder their ratings suck.
Interesting, considering Dale's reputation as boring (I never agreed -- Dale & Holley is my all-time favorite Boston sports radio show). He must have been repeating company line, a line he's probably told ad nauseous every time he guest hosts on 'EEI.MyDaughterLovesTomGordon said:
I heard that exchange and it baffled me. Dale said something like, " I mean, what are we going to do, break down what the biggest pitches of the game were and why he chose to throw a particular pitch?"
As though that's insane.
I would absolutely like to hear people talk about the pivotal points of the previous game and why the Sox were or were not successful. But, I guess that would require knowing what you're talking about?
Dennis followed that up, agreeing, and said, "We like issues that aren't black or white, where there's gray to them, some meat on the bone," or whatever. Maybe Dale said that and Dennis agreed. Then, they used A-Rod and the steroid talk as an example.
But, really, there's pretty much zero gray area there at all: A-Rod is a douche-face and it's pretty well accepted now that steroid users are going to be wiped out of the game.
What they really like, as they later admitted, was a "fall from grace" story, or, as I like to call it, kicking people when they're down. That's always fun, isn't it?
I don't like to start my podcasts until I hit the highway so I can pay attention to them, and I tend to leave these clowns on for about 10 minutes till I get there. I'm not sure why I torture myself that way...
It was really more of a general commentary regarding talk radio and conversation in general how it is easier to talk about negative stuff than positive because when everything is going well there isn't much to say.Youkilis vs Wild said:Interesting, considering Dale's reputation as boring (I never agreed -- Dale & Holley is my all-time favorite Boston sports radio show). I saw the highlights this morning. The CF jumped for the ball @ the wall, missed, and the ball rolled back behind him towards the IF. I tuned in right as they CF was jumping so i didn't even see who hit it and I thought to myself "oh, that could be 3". Then the camera cut and I saw ortiz pulling into 2nd and realized 3 was not an option.Buffalo Head said:I didn't see the game ... was it a close play? I mean, did it really matter that he didn't "run hard out of the box?" Should he have gone for a triple? What a thing to get worked up about. Then throw in Felger last week ripping Farrell for giving Ortiz a day off ... does anyone remember the guy had a pretty serious Achilles injury last year? Cut him a little slack, for god sakes.

Basically, if it had been a player with average speed, a 3b would have been a possibility, but given Ortiz's injury history and his general slowness, he cruised into 2b and probably shouldn't have entertained thoughts of 3rd
I'm not as down on this show as most here and hope that the duo today will eventually be the full time show but the bolded drove me crazy. He was saying there is no way Voctorino is a $13m player because of only 7 HR and 37 RBI and for that kind of money you need more "production".Red(s)HawksFan said:
Callahan seems to be at his best (which is the worst) when he's shitting on a player, especially when whatever he's shitting on the player for is either largely inconsequential or just downright wrong (he was also on Victorino as a bust for having "only" 37 RBI this season). It's the cranky angry white man, sports edition, and it's horrible. I don't think taking Dennis away full time is going to make him better. He needs to see the door too when the time comes.
Can't expect anything better. This is the same person who the morning after the 2004 ALCS Game 7 victory, rather than celebrating the greatest comeback in baseball playoff history and the first Red Sox World Series in almost 20 years, decides to spend the start of the show whining and moaning about Francona putting in Pedro in relief when the game was completely out of hand.gmogmo said:Was excited to tune in this morning on ride to work after a huge extra inning win (and pretty much all the other AL contenders losing last night). Thinking there'd be some excitement about another great win, maybe talk about the under the radar solid season Victorino is having, but instead it's Callahan losing his mind about the "free pass Ortiz gets around here" because he didn't run hard out of the box on his double in the 10th last night. Brutal.

They had me this morning, they were talking about the Somerville Hazing scandal and it's something that really hits home for me because my son would most likely be the kid that would be hazed if he plays high school sports because he's a smaller kid that would have a tough time fighting off 3 upperclassmen. It was great radio hearing Gerry and Kirk rant against hazing and I wasn't going to change the channel until Minicalahane kept teasing the Globe thing and I had to turn it off, here is a hint to them, no one fucking cares anymore.John Marzano Olympic Hero said:Is this Day 4 of Gerry Callahan crying and moaning about being wronged by the Boston Globe?
As much as I hate to say it, he is correct about the-man-on-the-street thing, it shouldn't have been the writer's friends. And the writer probably should have disclosed that one of those guys is a former EEI intern. That's Journalism 101 right there. Writing man-on-the-street pieces suck because you have to walk up to a bunch of people and hope that they'll talk to you. Many don't want to or give lousy quotes or ignorant of what you're writing about.
Though it is funny that Callahan all of a sudden doesn't care about ratings any more, it's all about revenue. I can't wait to hear those promos now, "You're listening to WEEI, WE HAVE HIGHER REVENUE THAN ANYONE ELSE!"
TL;DR version: LOL Boo Hoo Callahan. The guy isn't a liar, he's just lazy ... sorta like someone else I once read.
I caught about 4 minutes of the show on NESN this morning and Callahan was talking about baseball vs. football. he was lamenting the fact that pre-season football beat Red Sox ratings and that tomorrow's game (BAL-DEN) will likely beat Red Sox Yankees, even here in Boston. Then he says "But Selig doesn't care because he's got 7 billion in revenue". I found it odd considering his week-long touting of WEEI's revenuesJohn Marzano Olympic Hero said:Is this Day 4 of Gerry Callahan crying and moaning about being wronged by the Boston Globe?
