Wouldn't it be great if a player thought this way and charged the dugout after being hit... Forget the pitcher, just start walking towards the dbacks dugout screaming at Gibson. Won't happen, but I'd love to see it.Red(s)HawksFan said:
Cripes, I wouldn't be above endorsing a Jose Offerman type response the next time a D-backs pitcher "retaliates", only let it be aimed at Kirk Gibson for ordering the hit.
cromulence said:You both totally missed his point. He meant that you can't/don't really aim at a guy's hand, since it's moving and a very small target and can usually be pulled out of the way quickly. When you throw at someone, you throw at their ass/lower back.

What about the phrase "I don't think anyone claimed that the Pirates were throwing at Goldschmidt when he broke his hand" makes you think I didn't get the point?

I think it depends on an interpretation of the word "the" in this context.

I think Tony does whatever Tony wants. If this is Arizona's idea of mitigating a situation, I don't want to be around them when I'm hanging around a campfire and a can of gasoline appears. I also think the nuance you observed in the second paragraph is just coincidence. That guy has an ego too great to be coy. They'd be better off saying nothing, because it sure doesn't seem MLB cares.Average Reds said:
I think it's more likely that the Diamondbacks are in a full panic and they decided to roll out their "Chief Baseball Officer" (whatever the hell that means) to try and blunt the impact of the criticism they are receiving.
It's telling that La Russa didn't claim that Goldschmidt was hit intentionally - only that it's unfair that no one is focusing on it when they lost their star player for the year.
Of course, La Russa is full of shit and everyone knows it, since he was the king of payback when he was a manager.
