My first binkie in this forum, Joe Gunkel, is now off to the Sons of Mark Belanger. I'd been wanting to start something on Jordan Procyshen anyway, and with the trade, I thought the time had come. So...
From milb.com:
The "school" reference is a little misleading - "Pro" spent only one year at Northern Kentucky after two at a Juco in Colorado. As is noted above, he's a Canadian (from Calgary - here's a link to his local paper's coverage of his draft experience), so he hasn't had the same amount of time on the diamond that people from warmer climates would have at his age. He does come across as someone who really, really likes baseball - his Twitter feed is really bland, and consists mostly of Sox organization retweets, but a fair number of the tweets he originates are along the lines of "love this game!"
Sox Prospects doesn't have a lot on him: "Canadian catcher with a stocky build. Showed good home run power in college."
Pro has done pretty well in his brief minor league career. He started in Lowell last year, where (per Baseball Reference) he played 19 games, with a .339 OBP, a .315 slugging percentage (three doubles, no homers), and 7 walks against 6 Ks. He was promoted to Greenville late in the season, and appeared in nine games, with a double, a home run, three walks and 8 Ks in 33 plate appearances. So far this year in Greenville, Jordan has 150 plate appearances. He's hitting .277 with a .365 OBP and .346 slugging (six doubles, one home run), 23 Ks and 13 walks. Defensively, in 33 games, he's committed 8 errors (!), been charged with two passed balls, and thrown out 16 of 45 runners attempting to steal (36%).
If any of you folks in/around Greenville can add some in-person observations, I'd appreciate knowing more!
