9/9 -Rarity 71 - Lot's of good random Red Sox today - Casey Fossum, Brandon Lyon, Calvin Pickering and Scott Atchison (he played for Sox from ages 34-36, but always looked like a divorced 55 year old)

Oh - that's much more inspired than my Jays/D-backs choice of Shea Hillenbrand.

On the plus side, yesterday I got my lowest-scoring single square ever.....in the .300+ and HOF category, I got a 0.0005% with Pete Hill. I feel like any time they have "single-season rate stat plus HOFer," anyone who played in the Negro Leagues is an easy choice for a super-low square; the "official" seasons were so short that pretty much any good NLB player is guaranteed to have at least one season where they hit .300 or had a sub-3 (or 2) ERA.

edit: apologies for not properly spoiling my comment
Apologies if this has been brought up before, but all the spoiler tags make this thread a bit cumbersome IMO. Am I the only one who would support a "just don't check the thread if you haven't done today's version yet" policy?

Might have nailed an all time high RS (338). Six out of nine most popular answers. I assume it will go down since it's so early, but the 91% for the Phils/300 wins square is impressive nonetheless.

Lots of old-timers came to mind, including Jeff Reardon in the 1992 World Series after being traded from the Red Sox. Very fun with a limited number of two-team players to deal with

RS-129
A couple players came to my mind for Reds/Cubs, Jay Bruce and Leon Durham. I picked the wrong one.

My only, "Ohh, I shoulda..." moment was Cubs RoY, where I should have trusted my gut and gone Billy Williams instead of my pick.

Oof... 8/9, 127... would have been a really good score, but I picked a guy who was MVP one year before the Silver Slugger awards existed and then won 3 of them with other teams. This might have been the quickest I've ever picked the team combos and still had them all under 1%.

There
I'm not good enough to go for low scores but today was my crowning achievement in this game, as all my answers were either Japanese, or ex-Sox. Which are two of my go-to criteria anyway but rarely does that get me more than 5 or 6 guys, especially when there's no Sox line:

Anytime I'm able to add Pedro, rarity goes out the window, and it did right away. Also still to this day trying to get some more value out of the Larry Andersen trade ;) Fun and fast, with a 119 rarity.

Probably my best grid ever. 8 players were a part of the Red Sox organization at some point in their careers. And John Jaha was a participant in the 1999 Home Run Derby at Fenway.

You are now able to play rids that you may have missed. It also show how well you did in past games.

Halfway decent today, the relatively small amount of MVPs for each franchise spikes the rarity score for that row...

Went for the starting lineup again, I don't really get good rarity scores this way, but I was getting a little bored the other way. I guess I could use a different browser window to go for rarity?

Y. Darvish (SP) - R. Aurilia (SS) - G. Soto (C)
J. Gonzalez (LF) - J. Kent (2B) - S. Sosa (RF)
A. Beltre (3B) - R. Winn (CF) - M. Grace (1B)

I thought today was a little more fun than usual, but I agree the boredom sometimes sets in now as the team combos repeat themselves. There are at least a couple of obscure players from my youth who I'm still keeping in mind for the occasion that the right combo comes up, but meanwhile I have to ask myself, "Do I use Jamie Quirk for the 4th time on this Cleveland/KC square because I know he'll always give me a good rarity score, or do I challenge myself to another answer... and waste more time?".

I'm often my own worst enemy in this game when I chase a low RS by take a guess instead of going with a certain answer. Today's a great example, I ruined what would have been a perfect grid with a decent RS by going with Bump Wills in the bottom left instead of, say, Will Clark or Adrian Beltre. Wasted a couple of good answers.
