When I was playing youth hockey we used to have hockey cards made every year...picture on the front, little bit of information on the back. My folks recently found a card from my age 11 season, and on the back it listed my favorite player as Mario Lemieux. I was pretty worked up at my 11 year old self, but after forcing my parents to locate my age 12 season that card revealed a more acceptable Cam Neely.

It was only recently that I remembered that I had followed the finals of the 1987 Canada Cup with great interest, and as Gretzky was above my likes or dislikes, Lemieux was my guy. That changed quickly.

I fucking hate the penguins and their cry baby tanking organization. They've probably become my 2nd least favorite franchise in hockey over the last 5-6 years.

Between here and everywhere.
I have those same cards. One year my favorite team was listed as the Montreal Canadians.

I have no idea where that came from. But I'm surprised someone didn't beat my ass for that.

I was an irrational 10-year-old who was under the impression that it was all Boston's fault that Orr went to Chicago. In protest, I asked my mother to buy me a Canadiens t-shirt at Ann & Hope. I wore it a few times - and even claimed to have converted - until my older brother threatened to kick my ass all over the house.

I regret nothing more about my past than that whole episode. And I've pulled some messed-up shit in my life.

Man, I'd love to find some of my old hockey cards. Starhawks, #49, favorite player: Joe Juneau.

I hate that McQuaid's best value play there was to take the penalty because he couldn't skate for shit to beat the guy going around him.

This has playoff type pace to it.

The Spooner line looks lost out there.

And then somehow McQuaid gets in the middle of a great 2 on one and gets the stick lift+swat to break it up. Sometimes he's a legit 2B, sometimes he's AHL-level.

He literally broke up a Kessel - Malkin 2 on 0.

How'd they miss that Too Many Men?

Also that should have been a trip on Warsofsky but Marchand just kept skating.

Why would Bergy go far side on that? Just bury it high short side. /easy to say from my couch.

think he was trying to go five hole no? Very Bergeronlike
Oh he definitely was, just no reason for it. You're right though, I shouldn't be surprised.

And Marchand is just feeling it right now. He's ripping his wrist shot at every opportunity and I love it.

They're going to change that to Spooner's goal. He looked lost the first couple shifts, but has steadied and had a decent period so far.

Ice seems kinda shitty no? Guys blowing tires left and right.
Seems like that's been happening a lot this year actually.
Great outlet. Too bad Jimmy didnt lay it off to Spooner
There was enough back pressure cutting off the passing lane that shooting there was the right call. Tried to pick the corner, didn't miss by much.

They're trying to get them used to next week when it's 60 and raining at Gillette.
I was at BU/Maine at Fenway when it was delayed by thunderstorms. That was the silliest game of hockey I've ever gone to, the ice had at least a half inch of water on it all game. What are the weather rules for that at Gillette?
