This is the reason VAR sucks though (the goal should 100percent stand) but we're looking at all that nonsense? It should just be to see if there's anything super obvious in the immediate buildup.

It shouldn't have taken 5 minutes to show that was a goal.
Isn't the point of VAR to correct all of that nonsense? If the ball was out, player was offside and another player also fouled.. shouldn't that matter? Or is it only for showing if the ball went over the line?

edit: I mean.. offside is looked at all the time.. and that's only one of the three things that should have disallowed the goal.

Some cool vids on YT right now about Fluminense's unique, space-filling, fluid and overloading tactical approach. Pretty cool in a copy-cat world.
It’s pretty wild to see play out. I’ve heard it called anti-positional, a-positional, and anti-Pep. It looks like that great Napoli team from last season on crack. It kinda reminds me of playing pickup indoor soccer where you can start at right back and end up playing forward in the same move. Except on a full field. Marcelo, who we all know as a great left back, spent a lot of time playing more or less right winger.

Anyways, congrats to Fluminense for taking it home.

Well, they should be able to look at the action near the goalmouth and tell in about 10 seconds that the goal shouldn't stand because (a) it was an incontrovertible foul and (b) it hit Joelinton's arm as well. So that is two clear reasons to disallow the goal that anybody with eyes and half a brain can understand even without checking to see whether it was out-of-bounds or offside.

Bayern smashed Dortmund today, 4-0. Kane with a hat trick.

Everton gave up an OG (Ashley Young deflected at a freak angle over Pickfords head) at 87’ and drew with Brighton. A more extreme version of Evertons games of late - Brighton had 80% of the ball- but only 2 shotson target & rarely looked like scoring.

Branthwaite, Tarkowski, Garner, Onana, McNeil, Calvert-Lewin and lately Mykolenko turning in solid performances every week.

Win at West Ham, cup win over Burnley and draw with Brighton- good week.

Depth is sorely lacking, and Dyche has an irrational aversion to subs that might have cost two points today- there’s only so long you can ask a 38 year old fullback to keep Mitoma under wraps, he’s a terror- but otherwise he’s instilled a style and some steel and this is, dare I say it, a good team.

And S04 get a late winner. I've had worse sporting weekends. Many, many of them lately.

On the other hand, the one week where the gap is shorter is a godsend for European NFL fans.
That was a wonderful thing, until I watched the 49ers-Bengals game.

I've had nothing but bad sports weekends for a while now :( -- happy for Schalke though!

The life of a goalkeeper… Mistakes are magnified, never mind that he kept Forest in it for a large portion of the half.

That video makes it pretty clear that the CB wasn’t blameless. Turner calls him off and the CB continues to play right up until he ducks the ball at the last second. Turner had already reset assuming his call would be ignored.

But the manager to take action, right? I wouldn’t look in the mirror, either, if that face would be staring back at me.

The mics must be really close to the crowd because the Luton fans sound massive and a handful of assholes are consistently clear in their cussing. I really feel like I’m there.

Fair play to Luton. They played their asses off. Liverpool - and by that I mean Darwin - should have done better.

I was listening to one of the Everton podcasts yesterday. One of the old timers was predicting a tough time of it for LFC today. Evidently back in the day Luton was a banana skin club for Liverpool.

the commentators brought up this match from October 1986 - Liverpool came to Luton as reigning league champs & got run out of the stadium 4-1. Daglish was breaking in as player manager still, but Pool would go on to win the double by end of season. Banana peel indeed.

Ange loves Johnson, should be really interesting to see how he fairs in a big game.

Is Peacock not showing this for anybody else?

EDIT: Was just being weird and not moving the play head forwards, all good and goal Spurs.

Crazy deflection. Spurs continue to run all kinds of hot this year and I don't mind one bit.

But like announcers said, there were acres of space.

Fake Edit: Son puts one in called back by a toenail.

The choppiness is probably good for Chelsea, since the open, flowing play was much better for Tottenham.

I'm not sure that's offside, but lost in all of that was a) an outrageously whiffed tackle by VdV, followed by b) an outrageous dive by Sterling, followed by c) another borderline red card by Romero. Clownshow stuff from everyone involved.
