He jumped over Doherty. At the beginning of the corner Romero marked him.

either way. Shouting in someone’s face after an own goal is a jerk move.

Flip side, if you're in the trenches against someone in set pieces for a full match and you're chasing the game, and this ridiculous (very much in the "worthy of ridicule" sense) oaf turns home an own goal, you're gonna chirp him on the way by.

Karma found him regardless - but yeah generally I take no issue with stuff like that

Chelsea still wearing the 3 logo on their jersey, despite the telecom company pulling the plug on the sponsorship. Can Chelsea not pay their supplier for new shirts under the sanctions rules? Will they be wearing mangy, dirty, torn up jerseys be the end of the season?

Hammers-Villas has literally been a slugfest with bodies splayed all over the pitch. Villa’s Luis just took a boot to the face, looks like he broke his nose. Not sure who is gonna survive the second half.

Leeds up 1 - 0, but have been insanely wasteful.

If Norwich bumble into a goal Leeds will be very rueful, but that has not yet looked likely.

Antonio off with a hamstring. Not Creswell down. Truly a war of attrition

Chelsea didn’t deserve that in the slightest. Two borderline red cards not given and a clear penalty not awarded against them. Oh well, the unbeaten streak was never going to last I suppose.

David Coote special. I won't lose sleep over KSA being robbed of points, but just another strike against having the incompetent on-field referees preside over VAR.

Well, that's it: I'm now feeling more or less resigned to the fact that I'm likely witnessing Everton's relegation. Dammit.

So, listen, I know very very little about the Championship, because I have never had to know much about it. It's time I started learning. Does anybody have any good resources to share on it? I'm hoping, at bare minimum, to figure out how much more difficult it will be to follow from the US, and what the quality of opposition is really like there: What is the best way to watch matches? Is this Everton club good enough to compete for promotion right away, or is it a mid table Championship club, who may be there for a while?

Alan Shearer was on goal zone after the game and completely eviscerated VAR over the non call , and also over yesterday‘s non red card decision in the Liverpool/Brighton game.

It seems this is happening weekly. Guessing the problem is two fold.

Employing incompetent officials who are out of shape and lacking the required fitness levels and under little oversight. (Sadly the officials responsible for sacking the incompetent officials have NOT been sacked .. no word on the moose)

Fellow refs manning the VAR desk and being reluctant to overturn their colleagues decisions.

If it were me I’d have a VAR committee of a ref, a formal player and a league official … majority wins.

Well, actually if it were me there would be no VAR at all. It has massively decreased my enjoyment level watching the games.

Their are several members hereabouts who are avid Championship fans … and there is a thread devoted to it

Schmeichal really is a whiner. Was his dad the same?

and that was before the PEN .. and he was off his line as well. But he goes berserk claiming Lacazatte stopped ??? Jerk (just like his dad)
I saw Arsenal play Man U at Highbury in 1997 and sat behind the goal - and joined in a chant to his dad of:

“All you do -
All you do -
All you do is fucking whine.
All - you - do - is - fucking - whine.

their kit manager might want to call some Cleveland Browns fans on DIY jersey edits
but no blame on Mbappe, the one going to the team that beat them

watching the post-match highlights of Chelsea-Newcastle - quite stunning on the no calls

edit: I am quite surprised NBC isn't putting more Leeds on linear tv. why not give Jesse Marsch the same treatment they gave Bob Bradley and Swansea back in 2016? NBC shoved Swansea's poor play down our throats

I’ll leave it to more knowledgeable members to go into the quality of the league. For watching it though, ESPN+ has several matches a week. The EFL set up a subscription service for each team a few years back, but some teams have stand alone streaming channels of their own instead. I am pretty sure that games on ESPN aren’t streamed elsewhere, so you would need both services.

Hope it doesn’t come to that for you though

The quality is excellent … quite a bit better than MLS for sure. It’s also available on DAZN if you can access that (probably need a Canadian VPN)

fun fact … the Championship is the second most watched soccer league in the world.

Wow...just finished that and it was tense. I was convinced that Palace were going to concede late, after so many late disappointments this year. Then I thought they might have had it at the end. But I'll gladly take the point. Fun game to watch.

looks like Cara Banks from the Golf Channel is up next for Rebecca Lowe tryouts...or perhaps NBC is goading their fans to uprise against losing Lowe

Brighton have been terrible ever since they sold Burn and then Webster got hurt soon after. Their whole system was based on having three very good CBs.

They seem to have moved to a 4-2-3-1 to try to change things up but they don't look at all comfortable in it.

I will always enjoy seeing a player run around the field wearing the WW2 head bandage. Dier rocking it right now.
