Trent Brown's best days are clearly behind him; he'll be 31 next season, not a good age for a lineman that has dealt with injuries for a good portion of the last few seasons. However, he has been playing through them most weeks, so the term lazy should be tossed to the wind.
98.5 probably spouted that one enough to burrow into some brains. I know Bedard has been indulging in that shit at times.

Brown is a good player and, as anyone reporting on or following the team knows, he has played through some injuries the past few months. Extortion artist? More like good soldier who got a pay raise ahead of the season.

When you have multiple plays a game that look like this, I think it's fair to question the guy's consistency of effort:

PFF has him ranked right now as the 4th highest graded offensive tackle in football.

They have him ranked higher than Trent fucking Williams. That's enough for me to say that just maybe PFF grades are a bit questionable when it comes to line play.

In other news, Trent Brown has a new injury, this time his hand. He was working through the pain on Tuesday:

In that first video, he honestly looks like someone who cannot move, which would be consistent with an ankle injury. The question is whether he looked like that in the majority of plays? Or just the one shown on Xitter?

As for the 2nd video, Bill will always do everything he can to make the team’s injury and practice reports be as opaque and misleading as he can get away with.

I'm sure the Raiders would disagree.

If PFF has him ranked as the #4 offensive tackle in all of football, and folks here have been singing his praises pretty regularly, I think it's fair to say that his injuries are likely being overblown to explain away the fact that a guy with a history of literally taking plays off, is taking plays off.

Basically, what I feel like I keep reading is that Brown has been great, but when he hasn't been great, it's because he's hurt, even if it's on back to back plays.

The good news is he's cut down on his false starts this season, and if he plays 3 more games, it'll be the 2nd time he's played 12 games in a season since 2018.

Not sure where really to put this, but I watched the QB Schools tape breakdown of Zappe against the Chargers. Obviously, not a lot of good, but here are the notes I took watching it. My notes are summations of what he is saying.

Defense shows blitz's presnap but sitting on screens. They know what is coming.

Blames Onwenu for a bad mental miscue on the missed block and footwork on the play Stevenson got hurt.

Why no RPO - weather?

Zappe innaccurate on throws to a few people - elements are a part but they are willing to throw so he has to make them.

Chargers fake blitz and then do not blitz daring Pats to throw downfield but we dont...again.

PArker missing blocks a good bit.

highlights some poor run blocking for plays w no gain or loss as well as ones that could have been huge gains.

"hard to be successful just running or quick throws when whole D is within 9 years of LOS"

Points out more mistakes by Onwenu on run blocking and pass blocking.

Terrible body language from Pats receivers - highlights Parker multiple times and JJS once.

Really hitting on terrible play from Onwenu

Highlights Henry for lackadaisical blocking costing them yards

"So many errors at the point of attack...so many initial errors

First half Zappe misses 3 or 4 throws you have to make even in the rain

Guys open on play where Zappe took big sack.

Really says Pharoh Brown "not a good player" in his blocking in this game - my thought maybe as FB?

"86...he would not ble playing for me" (Pharoah)

TE and WR letting us down on blocking

wants the RPO

More criticism of Onwenu - calls him a stiff for this play in this game.

No joy, everything is slow.

I think that's far too direct a line to draw given the immense turnover of teams year to year.

I am now fully convinced that Jakobi was a goner here in NE the day he made that unimaginably stupid play against the Raiders. Rightly or wrongly it was perhaps believed that a winning player simply does not do such a stupid thing.
Fine, let him walk … then get an upgrade. Or upgrade somewhere else. Instead they got a cheaper, shittier player in the same mold and basically stood pat otherwise.

I think McDermott was plan A. Reiff was plan B. Anderson was plan C. Rookies were plan D. Reiff and Anderson were signed in March, so they didn't know what if any OL they would end up with out of the draft.
McDermott got the smallest contract of all these guys and got cut. I don’t think he was ever plan A.
