Franklin BBQ is closed on Mondays. Without a car, it'll be tough to get to any other top-notch barbecue places around town. I'm not a big fan of Lambert's, either.
Lambert's has good food but... it's upscale and tries to be more than just be a BBQ place -- like, they do brunch, they have a bar, they serve appetizers, steak, fish, etc -- whereas a real BBQ place sells smoked meat by the pound, has a few shitty sides, maybe some pie or cobbler, and that's it. So if I was to recommend a place for the true TXBBQ experience, Lambert's is not on the list. And I don't like their brisket.
Well, that's disappointing. Looks like a lot of places are closed on Monday, and with the race events being in the middle of the day, seems unlikely that we'll be able to get to any of the better places on the weekend. I'll have to go with the second tier, I guess - I'm sure that will still be much better than the TXBBQ I've had elsewhere. Any thoughts on Stiles Switch? That was one place I was considering - not too far away, is open late on the weekends, and seems to be well-liked.

Thanks for all the advice - I appreciate it.

Just saw this thread, I was here in turn 12 as well. Those BBQ recs are much appreciated as we are trying to figure out what to do tonight.

We were at Uchi last night, crazy long wait but well worth it.

Anyone watch the attempted qualifying session last night @ Australian GP?  Looked scary as hell, I can see why they postponed into Sunday AM.  After the switch to intermediates with ~10min to go, things really started to look bad.

Well apparently Chilton has sorted things out with his sponsors and will be back in the car for the rest of the weekend.

Sounds like a very serious accident involving the race in Japan.

I didn't watch the race, but I have to think Bernie is going to catch an epic amount of shit for not moving the start time up in the face of an approaching typhoon.

I watched, and the announcers said the the FIA offered to move the race earlier but the local race organizers rejected the idea.

That's surprising. I would have thought TV considerations would have motivated Bernie to run at the original time. Did they say why the local organizers were against moving the time up?

They were worried that it would impact attendance.

Man the crash structure was sheared off his car on a line about an inch or so above his helmet.

It's also a miracle that no marshalls were killed.

The point was made on the TV broadcast that the Japanese fans are rabid for this race - the organizers moved all the support races up several hours and the stands were mostly full for those.  They could have moved the main event up.  Plus keeping the original time meant that all the fans had to go home when the typhoon was coming to full force.

I haven't seen video of the crash since footage was withheld by FOM on the first broadcast.  Do I want to look on youtube or is it going to make me sick?

Footage from a fan is on YouTube.  You don't see anything graphic, but it's quite unsettling to see the speed at which he came off the track, and where he hit the tractor.  Only play it if you choose to.

Lewis Hamilton broke Sir Jackie Stewart's 45-year old F1 record- today at the British GP he led in an F1 race for the 18th consecutive time breaking Stewart's record of 17. Michael Schumacher did it in 2004 (15 straight races). Hamilton won the race today and leads the overall points race.

F1 driver Jules Bianchi died after being treated for head injuries since his crash in Japan.

The family statement said "Jules fought right to the very end, as he always did, but today his battle came to an end. The pain we feel is immense and indescribable."

Very humid in Austin today/this weekend, projecting for a wet qualifying and dry race, which is usually interesting.

Ok, this is stupid. We've been here since 11am local and there have been 4 or 5 separate 30min delays to qually. The rain has been ridiculous though.

So what could have been done differently? No way could anything happen on track in that weather. Should it just have been called off hours earlier?

I read some tweets from the buxton blog that it was actually called off several hours earlier but they let the tv keep going. If that's true.... Wow.

There was like zero information available at the track, thousands of people getting wet and irritated. Most of the logistics for yesterday were improvised, they changed parking planning on the fly, and delayed the opening of the track 2-3 hours officially, but had no way to enforce that.

On my way back to the track now.

Bump for 2106 season, which kicks off in Melbourne, Australia. Sometime today or tomorrow or whenever, time is weird between there and here.

I may be more excited for F1 season than baseball or football now. Mercedes looks like they are still significantly stronger than anyone else, but I guess we never know.

I have gotten my wife into it, and she will be wearing her Nico Rosberg shirt that I bought her for XMas.

My boy remains Daniel Ricciardo.

The new qualifying format was awful. Though it looks like they have already decided to change that for the next race.

I hope Ferrari has race pace, otherwise it may be another season of Mercedes dominance. But the Haas team is off to a decent start -- all things considered for a brand new team.

Best debut for an all-new team since Toyota's bajillion- dollar organization in 2002. And that was a race with only 7 cars running by the end. Safe to say it was a pretty excellent first race for Haas.

A promising start overall, especially compared to the last two. The bottom of the grid, which last year, were the Manors and the McLarens, got on the track and one each finished. The Red Bulls and Toro Rosos may be competitive with the Williams cars for the 3rd place team and the 4-5 spots on the grid, and the Force Indias not far behind.

Grosjean got a bit lucky with the race stoppage allowing him to avoid pitting, but drove very smartly. It has to be a boost for the team, and I would think they may be consistently in the hunt for back of the top-10 finishes throughout the year.

Fun race.
