Salty hit his first home run for the Marlins tonight, tying up the game at 6-6 in the top of the 7th inning. He hit it deep to RCF off of Drew Storen.

MLB.com article top lines say it very well:

V-Mart's homer takes Nathan off the hook in LA

Slugger hits game-winning shot in 10th after closer's blown save

Beckett didn't do well starting the game.

That article is devastating. I stand corrected.

Edit: Corrected about his velocity. I never thought Paps should be re-signed.

The gifs show something not mentioned in the article: he's not standing as straight up as he used to as he begins his delivery. Look at them carefully, he starts his motions from almost a hunched position; a few years ago he stood straight when he began his motion. His mechanics are very different now than they were a few years ago in Boston.

FWIW, there are rumblings in Oakland that Reddick may get sent down.  They are going to have an extra OF when Gentry comes off the DL and Reddick has an option left and has looked completely abysmal at the plate to start the year.

They just showed Ryan Dempster watching from a seat in the bleachers on today's Cubs broadcast from Wrigley. He was wearing a USPS cap for some reason.

....and on the second shot they showed of him he was picking his nose.

Josh Reddick could be optioned to Triple-A Sacramento to make room for the return of Craig Gentry (back) from the disabled list.
The A's have yet to officially make any moves, but it's notable that Reddick is absent from the lineup for a second straight day Friday while Sam Fuld is playing again. Reddick is off to a rotten start this season after last year's disappointment, picking up just three singles in his first 29 at-bats. Apr 11 - 5:13 PM

Paps just closed out Philly's 1-0 win over the Braves. He wasn't dominant velocity-wise (93 max), but he looked pretty good with late life and break on his fastballs. A fly to CF followed by two swinging Ks of Justin Upton (after a 3-0 count) & Chris Johnson (on three pitches). 12 of 17 pitches were strikes.

A's lose two starters, lead the league in blown saves and have key hitters slumping but get off to a strong start as a team. OK, you kind of could say who have they played, and next they get Houston for three at home, but Bob Melvin must have something to do with it again this year.

The D-backs have activated Cody Ross from the 15-day DL. To clear roster space, they've DFA'd ex-PawSox reliever Ryan Rowland-Smith.

Bobby Kielty signed with the Lancaster PA independent league team to give the majors another try. He's been injured the past few years but feels good this year. Butch Hobson is the manager of the team.

Scott Atchison in for Cleveland and Giants announcer Duane Kuiper mentioned how he pitched well for Boston for a couple of years and Terry Francona didn't forget that. Tito also has David Murphy starting in RF every day now for the Indians.

Bobby Kielty's Lancaster team played Tracy McGrady's Sugar Land team the past few days. Kielty is 0 for 8 with a FC so far in only two games.

Stolmy Pimentel moved to 2-0 this year when he came on in relief of Nelson Liriano in the 3rd inning with two on and none out. He K'd Holliday and Molina in getting out of the inning. He's still only 24.

With that wonderful red hair rounding the bases. That was fun.
This article is worth reading in its entirety. Here's one good excerpt:
"I'm in the World Series, I'm not going to take pitches. I'm going to hack and try to get a good first pitch. I knew I hit it out right when I hit it, it's kind of what you think about as a little kid in the backyard hitting off your dad. That was a dream come true. I remember running around the bases and everything seemed cloudy, I felt like a rookie all over again. The excitement- I've got Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz picking me up and hugging me. It was an awesome experience that I can remember for the rest of my life."

Daniel Bard getting close to being to return to game action following off-season surgery.

He's not too far off from game action but even once he's ready, he's signed to a minor league deal, so there's no reason to believe the Rangers are planning to use him in the Major League bullpen.  He'll have to prove himself at Triple-A before given another chance in the big leagues

Good for him. I'd still take 2013 over having him back though. Especially since it'd come with Crawford's .501 OPS.

Rockies call up Mike "Fort" McKenry from AAA
Yankees add Alfredo Aceves to the big league roster
Pirates put Stolmy Pimental on the DL

* George Kottaras gets called up by the Indians on short notice when Yan Gomes goes on paternity leave, and he promptly smacks a pair of solo HRs in his first two PAs for Cleveland in a loss to the White Sox.

* Stephen Fife, called up for a spot start with the Dodgers, yields 4 ER in 6 IP today including a pair of HRs to Giancarlo Stanton.

* Erik Bedard shuts down the Yankees with 1 R on 6 H over 6 IP for the Rays' win.
