Talk about some pressure!touchstone033 said:Could Rodriguez be taking Kelly's spot?
According to Sean McAdam, Kelly might get only one more start to prove he belongs with the MLB club.

Probably skip a couple starts here and there to avoid overworking him but I think you're on the right track with the 2015 inning total.Don Bradman said:He threw 145 innings in 2013, 120 in 2014, and 48+ so far in PAW. What's his target for 2015? 170 innings +/= total? If so, that gives him 110-120 innings for the remainder of this year, which translates to 15-18 starts. Does that make him a regular member of the rotation, assuming he performs well?

Most likely Joe Kelly will head to the DL with a terrible case of nocontrol-itis.
Edit: And agreed on the IP total for EdRod. All the more reason to give him MLB innings immediately. If he's lights out for the next 5-6 starts, that's a much better "problem" to have to solve than the ones the Sox have been handling this season.
No real reason I suppose, but to be honest, I wouldn't mind 1) giving him a little time off, and then 2) giving him some action even below AAA to have him really focus on what he needs to correct.derekson said:
Why not just option Kelly to Pawtucket?

I suspect Wright may get put into the bullpen as a long-guy. Lord knows the Sox can use an RP that can give us multiple innings.

I think this is what happens and while Lose is correct that Barnes can give multiple innings I think it is a waste of his arm to do so, he would be better used in a high lev late inning role. I think Kelly gets one or two more shots to figure it out as a starter in MLB*foulkehampshire said:

He'll get more than that. He throws hard.Byrdbrain said:I think this is what happens and while Lose is correct that Barnes can give multiple innings I think it is a waste of his arm to do so, he would be better used in a high lev late inning role. I wouldn't be surprised if they sent him straight back for the short term, although his start tonight was the baseball equivalent of Alec Baldwin's scene in Glengarry Glen Ross for the starters. Once more through the rotation, gentlemen: the winner keeps his job in the rotation, second prize is the bullpen, and third prize is you're fired.dynomite said:Given the electric stuff he showed tonight and the team's desperate situation, there is a 100% chance this kid is staying up until he proves he can't handle it.

Please tell me this Spooner guy went on to win 300 games and is now in the HOF.Monbo Jumbo said:Seen on Twitter.
Rodriguez is 1st MLB left-hander since Karl Spooner in 1954 to have scoreless debut longer than 7.0 IP with 7+ SO and no more than 3 hits.
Err... According to Wikipedia he blew out his arm in Spring Training the following Spring Training and never played in the Majors after 1955.CoRP said:Please tell me this Spooner guy went on to win 300 games and is now in the HOF.
This. If the Sox plans are for Kelly to be a starter, he needs to pitch innings, something a move to the bullpen will not give him. He's already been moved from starting to the pen and back to starting. A move back to the pen should mean that is where they want him to stick, not to try to work out his command issues and continue to develop his offspeed pitches.NDame616 said:
Yes. He has to prove he can consistently throw all of his pitches for strikes, and not get shelled, for long stretches of time. I doubt the Red Sox want him to prove that at the major league level
Exactly. I think Kelly has too much potential as a starter to move to the pen yet.timlinin8th said:This.
