Do I want a webcam tripod?

I've been working on a MacBook Pro for a few years. Its built-in webcam has been my only webcam. As such, the MacBook has been centered on my desk (on a stack of books that I only recently upgraded to a laptop stand). A 27" external monitor is next to the MacBook. It's worked OK. I prefer to work on the larger monitor, but I spend too many hours a day on Zoom so it's important that my webcam be in front of me, so that people can perceive that I am looking directly at them.

A few weeks ago I bought the Apple Studio Display and used that as my primary display. It was centered on my desk. It was a huge improvement in my comfort, focus and productivity. But I returned the display because it's too expensive.

What I want: for the webcam on my desk to be centered, ergonomically above a large display.

My options:

1) Buy an external webcam and mount it on a display
2) Buy something like this and use my work iPhone as my webcam
3) Buy an iPhone tripod for my desk

Anything else? Buying an iMac is out because I need the computer to be portable. I don't really forsee myself "creating content" like YouTube videos, podcasts or tutorials. I'm leaning toward option #2 because I think my primary use-case will be as a webcam for Zoom calls... but does having a tripod enable some cool stuff that I'm not thinking about?

If it's just for zoom, there are many cheap decent webcams built to mount on the top of your display.
