Not by choice, the Habs played hardball and were able to because he was an RFA and nobody in the NHL offer sheets RFAs so teams hold all the leverage. The Bs have Warsofsky and Morrow in the wings and can run out Chara/Hamilton- Seidenberg/Bartkowki-Boychuk/McQuaid if Krug holds out. There is no chance they make him the second-highest paid defenseman on the team. And the RFA compensation for a $4M offer sheet is a first and a third, who is giving that up for Krug?
Bottom line is he's not getting $4M from the Bruins so no need to worry about Chia overpaying him.
