It is impressive the amount of $ QU has invested (and presumably, raised from donors) over the past decade. The hockey arena/hoop arena are great places to watch a game, top notch facilities, even if lacking a bit of character in their newness. They bought Bridgeport Law School and built a great facility, and now are expanding into the medical school field (not sure that's such a great idea, but Obamacare may result in a shortage of doctors, so that might not be the case). They've bought a lot of land in the area too, buying houses in nearby neighborhoods, expanding outside the area of the main campus. I hope it pays off. I still can't shake the sort of "small time" perspective I have of QU from growing up nearby, but it really is an up and comer school - I am definitely impressed with it.
I don't think the hockey team is doing that bad so far, seems to be incremental improvement, but if people are complaining they need a more big time coach, that's probably a good sign for the program.
I've got no relationship with QU beyond growing up in the town next door and going to Calvin Murphy basketball camp as a kid (and having friends whose parents worked at the school), but it's great to have that quality of hockey 20 minutes from my house, and at such reasonable prices, with easy access to tickets. Watching hockey for pure enjoyment, although I certainly root for the Bobcats when I'm there.
