Nah. The Celtics gave up 16 to rid of like $40m of Kemba, Utah gave up a low 1st for Favors remaining $20. Dunn is only one year of $5m......you can add like half of that with the much-traveled “cash considerations” and our mid to low 2nd if Schroeder balks at the $5.9m taxpayer MLE.What are you paying some team to take Dunn back into cap space, especially this late in the offseason? Teams are going to be asking for a late first.
That certainly weighs in favor of signing him to a one year deal. But I worry about any player who pulls a Jody Reed (turn down lots of guaranteed money and then have to settle for much less). I heard that Schroeder is a FA right now because he turned down $84M from the Lakers.Aside from filling a need, the two best years of Schroeder’s career have been in prove-it years following a disappointing one (I’m calling last years Lakers season as one for him which is being reflected in his lack of demand) which is one of the reasons I’m pro-Schro for this team this year. Being in a contract year would be a good thing for us.
I think the idea is that he'll actually be on his best behavior because that's his route to get paid, not empty stats. Teams already know he can put up #s & be disruptive. This is the concern with Schroeder, right? On a one-year deal, he'll be about himself.
Oh yeah. There are also some disturbing rumors about Germany and guns and all that too. All of this was years ago, though. He was supposed to be legit f'n scary. In a fun, competitive way? Right?
My god. He did a number on the guy.Oh yeah. There are also some disturbing rumors about Germany and guns and all that too. All of this was years ago, though. He was supposed to be legit f'n scary.

He did get 5 years older and more injured though. Why doesn't IT go to China and live like a king for 5-10 years? That being said, the guy deserves a bit more credit than some of you guys are giving IMO. He didn't get any shorter since he scored 27ppg a few years ago.
And he most likely did get shorter, though not by any measurable amount. He's not growing any more and gravity wears us all down.He did get 5 years older and more injured though.
IT got a lot slower and less agile, less explosive jumping as well. Small guys live on the fringes because they need to be elite at the other areas of athleticism to survive. Why doesn't IT go to China and live like a king for 5-10 years? For Schroeder, I hope we don't offer the full MLE. He's OK at the 5.9M. At that price, if he is disrupting the team chemistry they can just send him home and eat the money.
I haven't noticed he's slowed down, but to be fair I don't think I have watched him play a complete game in over a year. I will defer to you and the rest of the guys. I don't want him on the C's - I am done with novelty end of bench guys (sorry Tacko).IT got a lot slower and less agile, less explosive jumping as well. As to Schroder, at 9.5M he's probably still a bargain and not an issue in himself, the problem is the hard cap.
I do agree the Celtics should hold at $5.9M and make it a decision for him if he's looking for role or money this year. Schroder is good, he'd walk into most or all of Kemba's minutes, and playing 20MPG+ on a playoff caliber team is a good way to build value, and next year is a thinner FA crop.
It is if you want to trade for a star like Beal, the Celtics are going to be right up on the hard cap even with trades to get space for Schroder. If makes matching in a trade very difficult. Also makes it hard to do things like sign a buyout.BOS was hard-capped last year as well. Is it really that big of a concern?
The highest paid guys in Europe get about $4 million.Would schroder do something dumb like take $10 or 15 mill for one year in Europe?
Would be a short term windfall but would take him completely off the radar for NBA teams?
Do not believe that is accurate anymore. Hoopshype has with him Octagon (same agency as Giannis, Bam, Steph and many others), and he is still on the player roster on their website. That's an agency with clout. If they told him to take the deal and Schroder chose to bet on himself, that will surely be common knowledge around the league.from wikipedia
am thinking Okulaja won't be expanding his client base (though, just to be clear -- this is on Schroder, who frankly seems like a hard-headed sort).
That said, if the Celtics can get him at $6 million, that's a steal.
The next best people like Hart & Lauri are RFAs.Anyone else out there worth the 5.9 mill exception?
Anyone else out there worth using as leverage to gently nudge Shroder to make a call?
"Celtics have reached out to X about their MLE, although Shroder remains their first choice"
Agreed. Lots of flexibility going forward.Brad played this correctly imo. The Stevens era really is off to a good start
That Yam is clearly so intent on getting to the NBA means he'll work that much harder to make the C's roster in 2022-23.closes the door on Madar as well, he was almost certainly getting stashed anyway, but now it's for sure
Jabari not KornetIs this where we are at:
Schroder, Richardson, PP
Smart, Romeo
Brown, Nesmith
Tatum, Grant
Timelord, Al, Kanter
????????
Dunn, Bruno, Kornet
Ok. I don’t mind this roster at all. Hopefully Romeo or Nesmith can play.Jabari not Kornet
Pending health and reasonable improvement from PP/Romeo/Nesmith, that's a pretty solid rotation. Tentatively optimistic. Is this where we are at:
Schroder, Richardson, PP
Smart, Romeo
Brown, Nesmith
Tatum, Grant
Timelord, Al, Kanter
????????
Dunn, Bruno, Kornet
Possibly neither. Roster is at 15 guaranteed contracts without Jabrari, so they need to clear a spot if they want to pickup his non-guaranteed contract. Landing Carsen/Jabari not Kornet
AH Edwards was missing.Possibly neither. Roster is at 15 guaranteed contracts without Jabrari, so they need to clear a spot if they want to pickup his non-guaranteed contract. Landing Carsen/
Brüno into some other team's cap would be a nice cap to the offseason.
Based on what he's shown tonite, I'd like to keep Bruno around for a while.Possibly neither. Roster is at 15 guaranteed contracts without Jabrari, so they need to clear a spot if they want to pickup his non-guaranteed contract. Landing Carsen/

One of these things is not like the others.I think Dunn, Fernando, and Grant will be dumped.
I think we may see quite a few different starting lineups until they find one they like.I’d start Smart/Nesmith/Jaylen/Tatum/Rob, with a bench of PP/Schroder/Richardson/Al, and Romeo/Kanter mixed in.
I think Dunn, Fernando, and Grant will be dumped.
Looks like they are under currentlyHow much will they save by cutting Parker? Do they duck under the tax?
2021 NBA Luxury Tax Threshold | $136,606,000 |
Total Taxable Salaries | $135,655,380 |
Current Luxury Tax Space | $950,620 |
I like Nesmith in the starting lineup as well, a shooter makes more sense than Richardson or Schroeder. Those guys need the ball in their hands a bit to be contributors.I’d start Smart/Nesmith/Jaylen/Tatum/Rob, with a bench of PP/Schroder/Richardson/Al, and Romeo/Kanter mixed in.

I meant Carsen, not Grant. Brain cramp moment. One of these things is not like the others.
It brings better balance to the starting lineup, and the bench. He shot 37% from three last year, even after his rough start, and shot 46/39 in the second half. I’m extremely bullish on him, buy all the Nesmith stock that you can.Man....you all continue to be miles ahead of me re Nesmith.
He's still coming off my bench at best
As moops noted they are just under, but only 100k of his 2.3m is guaranteed so believe they would save 2.2m cutting Parker on vet minimum. How much will they save by cutting Parker? Do they duck under the tax?
One thing to remember is luxury tax is only calculated at the end of the year. So even if they stay this close, it doesn't preclude another move now, assuming they think they could get under by years endAs moops noted they are just under, but only 100k of his 2.3m is guaranteed so believe they would save 2.2m cutting Parker on vet minimum.
The thing is that his defense is what earned him playing time last season. His offense was good as you noted but his D has almost equal upside. He is pretty versatile too. He'll get to fight for minutes with RL and Kris Dunn (assuming he's still around to start the season), which will only make him just as hungry as he was last year. And if one of the slender-man crew goes down, he'll get breakthrough minutes. Regardless, I imagine that he'll beat out Langford for the last 12-15 minutes from the bench because he offers something the team needs: an excellent sharpshooter. If he handles those minutes well and Smart goes for Beal and picks next year and Richardson walks, he'll be able slot right in to those minutes. The thing is that his defense is what earned him playing time last season.
