Was Dixon fired or did he leave on his own volition?

Seems to me like if he had left Pitt 4-5 years ago he could have done a LOT better than TCU

Mick Cronin to UNLV? He's evidently working on the buyout now. Seems lateral move and maybe a signal Cincy is not headed to B12 (or that B12 is not expanding anytime soon)

Agreed. Unfortunately, in the past 4-5 years, the Pitt program has plateaued and road to becoming an elite program again has gotten significantly harder with the ACC move. I know TCU is his alma mater, but going to a bottom feeding B12 schools feels like a terrible move. Perhaps he was going to be canned?

I understand why he wanted to try to give it a go in the Conference, but keep in mind that the step up from the mid-major old BE is significant. He's probably more suited to a lower tier school, particularly in light of his unacceptable NCAA tournament showing this year (yes, in other conferences they would be handing out raises and awards for making the Big Dance but to lose in the first round, or, for that matter, the first weekend, makes you an anamoly in the Conference).

If he agrees with you (how could he not?) and his contract wasn't up, AND he didn't think he was going to be fired (can Pitt really expect more than a tournament appearance?) maybe the money is the same, expectations are slightly lower, and the term is slightly extended?

He can be a hero at TCU. His days of being a hero at Pitt have passed.

A friend is a big Pitt fan and says Dixon felt underappreciated by the admin, i.e. didn't provide upgrades he had been seeking and stuff

Plus he may rather live in Dallas than...Pittsburgh.

Steve Pederson, the AD who hired Dixon 13 years ago was fired last spring and replaced by Scott Barnes, an ex-college basketball player, who surely preferred to bring his own guy in knowing that Dixon and Pederson were always going to be linked together.

This isn't Dixon's first rodeo he knew what was going on and was proactive rather than reactive. It was likely as simple as this.

No link, but WKU's coach of 8 years has resigned following the suspension of 3 of his players.

Slight nitpick but whoever this coach is he was only there for 3 years maybe 4. A buddy of mine had that job until he was fired 3-4 years ago.

You're right of course. He had been with the program 8 years, not all as head coach.

I just accidentally reread this and my life has changed forever. The Conference? I love it. I mean, I don't love the conference. I don't drive a needlessly large SUV, have immovable hair, tuck all of my golf shirts into my khakis or listen to music that is a little Rock and a little Country but ultimately neither, as is the way of seemingly all fans of the ACC - sorry, the Conference.

But, I LOVE the act of calling it the Conference. It's so stupidly wonderful. I hope this catches on. I hope this can happen.

What is it right now? like 7 of the last 15 NCAA champs are from the Conference? Something wild like that.

We have no trouble admitting the SEC is the football powerhouse, but some folks are skittish when it comes to respecting the Conference, which is bizarre to me.

You're right, they didn't join until 2014
So delete Maryland, count Louisville and add Syracuse (2003) = 7 of past 15 national champions are currently in the ACC. 50/50 chance that it'll be 8 of 16. Bringing it back on topic, 3 of the current ACC coaches have >= 750 wins with a 4th likely to reach that level next season (Pitino).

Getting players into Vandy is difficult vis-a-vis the rest of the SEC...Stallings did a good job there; maybe he got tired of that part of the equation.

My poor Pitt fan friend, he's apoplectic over this hire.

SFA is looking hard at A&M's top assistant. It will be him or their current assistant.

An oddity of this hire: Pitt player Sheldon Jeter left Vanderbilt and eventually landed at Pitt. But Stallings blocked the move and Jeter had to go to JC first for a year before ending up at Pitt.
This is an awesomely awkward situation for Jeter and Stallings.

SFA is going to hire A&M's top assistant and recruiting guru Kyle Keller, announcement coming very soon.

Keller has coached at Kansas and Oklahoma State. He was scheduled to be on th OSU flight that crashed in 2001. He changed planes at the last minute. He almost quit coaching after it.

I'm excited, hopefully he can build on what Underwood has going.
