Also, Campbell is just coming back from an injury, and to my eyes, looks to be playing at his most putrid over the last few games.

Talbot doesn't appear to have made a big impact, but who could save the rotting corpse of Greg Campbell at this point?

It's doubtful Corsi stabilizes at 7 games.  Actually, it's not doubtful, it's certain.  If you want to say anything about the 4th line's performance over the last 7 games, you're going to need to look at their stats for each game, adjust for Qualcomp (as EJ notes) and Zone Starts and look for conclusions there.

The eye test says that, despite last night's game, they have been better than before - there are certainly a few posts prior to yesterday indicating posters are seeing that the line has been skating better with Talbot.  They are still not good and probably never will be, but I'm certainly not going to hammer them too hard because they sucked on the second game of a back-to-back.

I noted the small sample sizes and no one's concluding anything. We do have larger samples of Talbot's whole year...

Seems too early to eat crow as well as too early to bury them, but as I said, early returns cast doubt that we've stumbled upon any magic here.

So what was the point then? I don't think any rational person suggested the latter at any point in the trade or during the past two weeks. I mean its Max Talbot.

can't figure out how to embed the graphs, but both Campbell and Talbot are on a career bad streak in Corsi (highlighted by that Ottawa game, where Campbell was a -18 in C+/-).   But Campbell hasn't been particularly good this year anyway.  These graphs should be 10 game averages of on-ice Corsi differential:

From the eye test, which is hardly any worse over 7 games than any statistical test, Talbot looks to be better than Caron on the 4th line.  That could be a result of my irrational hate for Caron's game, which I don't think was any better than Campbell's this season.  Marginal impact perhaps, but I'm not sure how any player would make an injured Campbell look better.
