Between here and everywhere.
Caron has been told he's been traded. Just not yet to where.

There is speculation it's part of a bigger deal.

I doubt that is the case.

It's weird it has taken so long for the details to come out, right?
Gary Bettman can't afford a decent pair of dress shoes. What makes you think he has more than one phone line into the NHL Front Office?

@DarrenDreger: Bostons Caron to the Avs for Max Talbot as main elements.

I don't get this trade at all. A more expensive grinder to play on the 4th line.

How's it bad for Colorado? They saved $1.75 million in cap space next year. That's hard to find a GM fucking stupid enough to do that, but good thing Ol' Pete stepped up!

Forwards over the past 4 seasons with at least 3,000 minutes played in all situations.

Brutal does not begin to describe this trade, regardless of whether Colorado retains salary.

I'd rather have Cunningham on this team then Max Talbot. Chiarelli managed to downgrade the team today, and hurt it next year. I'd fire him before the press conference if I was Charlie Jacobs.

The Bruins must have some analytics thing that says "gritty 4th liners are undervalued", right? I mean, I defend most of Chia's moves as I think most people are far too harsh on him and are all too prone to forget the years of incompetence that preceded him, but I've never really understood the ongoing obsession with these guys.

Ugh. With the way Caron has been playing, this makes no sense at all.

Also, I can't wait for Spooner's first turnover when Julien benches him for Talbot.

I just got out of a 2 hour staff meeting for this?  Puke.  What a terrible trade.

I don't think they're that sophisticated. I think they honestly think that these kind of guys help you win. Like, Campbell is by all accounts a great teammate and he's always willing to fight (even if he sucks at it). I think they see that kind of stuff and think that's the role of the 4th line and leave it at that.

Witness the Behind the B talk among the "brain trust" when discussing the Seguin trade: "so he's a 30-goal guy," veiled shots at Kessel, etc. They think their way is the best and the Cup vindicated that.

They're a little bit right, I mean, when Campbell was younger and cheaper he was probably an asset given his intangibles. And Bergeron is the epitome of this given that he's actually good -- I'm sure he could get a lot more goals than he does but he's very selfless, and that's great. But he's one-of-a-kind.

Not every forward has to be a tough, lunchpail guy, and sometimes it's OK if a d-man gambles if the times he succeeds outweighs the times he turns it over. Building your team like this might be great if you didn't have a cap and you could pick and choose everyone, but given the restrictions and the difficulties of trading, maybe it's sometimes better to let your players do what they're good at, no?

Unless there is something we don't know about yet, I can't believe they didn't grab another Dman. Even if it was a Zanon/Mottau type.

I guess the assumption is that Paille (UFA), Campbell (UFA), and Caron (RFA/useless) are not coming back in the fall.  The team does need someone to play the 4th line next season, and they probably don't want to leave the 4th line to a bunch of AHL'ers.  Finding a top 6 (or even a top 9) forward was going to be difficult to impossible given the B's cap situation and high cost, so one might as well look to upgrade the bottom end of the roster and hope for the best.

I would have preferred better, but I'm not sure this trade is the fiasco it's being made out to be either.  Maybe it's the fact that I've never liked Caron on even the 8th line. Or maybe I just like being contrarian.

Firing Chiarelli does nothing to fix this year's team or next year's either.  Nor will it bring back Kessel or Seguin.  Yes, there are better GM's; but there are many that are far worse.

I can't get my head around it.  I was finally getting ok with the idea of Campbell being gone next year and now they have a worse Campbell with a higher cap hit.  I can't be rational about this.

So this is the speed asset they were after? Hmm. Are we sure it isn't 2009? He had a good cup run back then.

Is anybody really clamoring for Kessel to be in Boston? That trade ended up about as nicely as it possibly could have for Pete.

I don't think they need to fire him either. It has just been a frustrating year.

Having a 4th line of AHLers next year should not be a worry. You can always find veteran grinder kinds of guys for one-year deals for like $1m. Sometimes they might even surprise you and be useful. Watch how much Paille and Campbell sign for (if we don't re-sign them).

You can definitely start the year with a 4th line of AHLers and see what sticks.  Perhaps none of them do and you find some vet castoffs for pennies on the dollar.  In a salary cap league you need those AHLers on the 4th line if you want quality 1-9.

Agreed, but his WOWY numbers this year are actually somewhat encouraging: http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/showplayer.php?pid=453&withagainst=true&season=2014-15&sit=5v5

Colorado as a team is terrible, but he's played up and down their lines and generally most teammates have had better Corsi playing with him. Campbell has no excuses for being that low
