Ambulance left 20 minutes ago, game still on hold. Announcers suggested managers, umpires were praying at home plate (!?)

First game in AA; possible that outfield communication wasn't clear?

So, not a communication issue, but appears to be player momentum carrying them into each other. Both players went to the hospital. Game stopped for 30 minutes. Courant reporter says players were gathered in prayer.

Buxton's neck and right shoulder went into Kvasnicka's knee

Buxton was unconscious for 10 minutes on the field after collision. Came to in the ambulance, where Twins GM Terry Ryan was riding with him.

unconscious for 10 minutes can't be good

Buxton's shoulder/neck area hit RF Mike Kvasnicka's leg. At the hospital, he remains groggy, confused with concussion-type symptoms.

Any time you are out for more than a few moments, that's scary as hell. Any concussion is serious, but this sounds bad.

I really hope he is able to get back on the field with no long term impact on his career.

Holy shit 10 minutes is a long ass time, no wonder people were praying.

I got to assume he's shut down until next season and just ahve to hope for his sake there are no long term issues, which are a very real risk.

Wow, that's awful. Hope he's ok. Was seriously considering going to the game to see his debut last night (New Britain resident).

I was at the game last night. Truly scary. Buxton signed his picture in my daughters program before the game.  Watching it live from behind the plate it looked like Buxton and Kvasnicka hit head to head diving for the ball. They were both lying very still on the field for a while. It was the first time I've ever seen an ambulance on the field at New Britain Stadium. After the ambulance had left the Rock Cats gathered as a team in front of their dugout, removed their hats and bowed their heads. You could tell it was something very serious.

Yeah a 10 minute loss of conciousness post trauma is not good.

No joke, I've transported a few people that have been out for 1-5 minutes that had severe concussions that all recovered eventually but not to a professional athletic level.  At the least I'd imagine he's shut down for this year, scary shit.  Hope he has the best possible outcome, sad to see young kids have events like this.
