Great First, bad second, mediocre third so far.  You won't win playoff series like that, but they might be able to pull out a win vs Edmonton.

The 2nd Edmonton goal was obviously shitty, but other than that I thought that was Johnson's best game of the season. Edmonton is the best offensive team he's faced all year, and I thought he played very well.

Good win. Not pretty, but they're fighting through a rough patch of injuries and illness.

Hopefulyl some of them get well in the next two days, I doubt they beat Vancouver playing like they did in the 2nd and 3rd

California. Duh.
Harder than it should have been after the first period, but with all the injuries and sickness, great to get the 2 points.

Ugly final 40 but every win icing your 13-16th forwards, 7 and 8 D, and backup goalie is an achievement.

Least comfort-inspiring 39 save win ever from Johnson.

It took me 10 minutes to realize that the camera is behind the benches. Is this the only arena that films from this side?

Hey guys, long time lurker here. AFAIK, Rexall Place is the only NHL arena that has the benches on the "other" side.

I kinda find it ironic & funny that someone with a username like yours asked this question. (Certainly not meaning to sound like an asshole)

Cheers

Ha! Didn't even occur to me.

(My username is a Spygate reference, as in the only way the Patriots can possibly have success is with their scary and morally bankrupt sideline cameras that other teams used as well. There's no other reasonable explanation, right?)

Yeah, I figured. The Pats are just big meanies. They should act like the Jacksonville Jaguars, a model franchise.

But back on topic, the Bruins have a chance to keep rolling on this road trip. Get it done.

And the usual defence core, get healthy soon.

His results weren't that bad.  His process, on the other hand, could use some work.

I will say that he had a damned fine  3rd period and made some big time saves to keep the Bs ahead.  However, the Oilers were only within 1 goal because he gave up one bad goal and one terrible one - that wraparound goal was a mental lapse that shouldn't happen to an NHL goalie.

He also just gives up way too many rebounds to the area between the dots.  If you stick him on a team that is worse at clearing rebounds than this one (say, the Oilers), he looks more like the guy he is - a 27 year old journeyman with a career .909 save percentage in the AHL.

Johnson reminds of of a poor man's non-2011 playoffs Thimas.

Remember in 2009 when they were playing the Hurricanes, and Thimas was playing out of his mind in OT and we were all just waiting for him to give up that soft goal that should never be allowed to end the series.  And then he did.

That's how I feel about Johnson.... but I suspect there will be much Tuukka in the playoffs.

Between here and everywhere.
Chad Johnson is 6-1 with a 1.98 GAA and a 928 sv%.

He hasn't been as good as those numbers would indicate, but he also hasn't been the absolute sieve a lot of posters thought he would be.

For a backup goalie on a cheap contract, he's been close to perfect.

I'm very pleased with Johnson this year, but I can't shake my head of the idea that Dobbie was better. Stupid of course; for a backup goalie Johnson's done a great job.

Dobbie was better. He's also been on the IR almost the entire season though. So really, this has worked out.

Also how close their AHL numbers are:

Johnson: 2.66, .909
Khudobin: 2.53, .912

And Khudobin is actually a month older than Johnson.

Julien's system is the reason.  Tuukka is a good goalie.  He's great because of the people playing in front of him.

A little more than half of Johnson's NHL games came outside the Bs system.  He has a ~.923 save percentage outside Julien's system and a .928 within.  Both teams were overall at or better than league average for goals against in the seasons he played for them.  So a mixed bag in a SSS.  He played well, but also had decent defensive teams in front of him.

I hope I didn't sound like I thought he has been awful, because that wasn't the point I was trying to get across....

Obviously, he has overall been pretty damn good, I just find myself shaking my head every now and then (and, to be fair, there have been a few times with Tuukka this season, as well).

That's true of course, plus Dobbie had had injury issues his first year in the Boston system (which is why we got the enjoy the Night of the Living Dead Marty Turco Experience).

I'm not sure you're correct about this. I'd guess we'll have a chance to see in February.
