The best thing for him is to increase his strength, so hopefully it's all muscle and helps him next year. Big offseason for him. We’ve entered “the best shape of my career” portion of the offseason. View: https://twitter.com/markdivver/status/1416446449789935617?s=21
Suter makes a ton of sense. He's aging, but still a very good player. Left shot top 4 D. Only costs $, which they have. He checks all the boxes. He's more of an offensive guy these days but would probably fit well with either McAvoy or Carlo.
• The momentum is gaining with Boston and Taylor Hall. Word is Hall wants to stay and the Bruins want to keep him. Nothing is done until it’s done, but there’s a path.
Suter time. With Lauzon plucked away by Seattle the LHD depth chart is now Grzelyck, Zboril, Vaakanainen, Ahcan. They'll need to do something there.
This is exactly where I'm at. The top two lines, when healthy, arent the problem on this team. The bottom two lines and defense could use some work, however. With TH back, I have debated whether or not to go for Landeskog as well but I think the smart play is to put your resources into a top 4 D.
I have been mentioning Barrie since March. Seems like a good fit. This is exactly where I'm at. The top two lines, when healthy, arent the problem on this team. The bottom two lines and defense could use some work, however.
I dont think Dougie comes back, but what about Tyson Barrie? Hes an offensive minded defenseman - which we desperately need - and is real solid on the PP. Bringing him in also pushes Carlo down to the third pair where he can flourish, giving us a right side of McAvoy-Barrie-Carlo. And, while hes going to get paid, I'd expect it to be closer to the $6-7m range instead of the $9-10m range of Dougie.
Ryan Suter also was bought out. Hes a left handed shot we need on the blue line and, while not the player he once was, hes can certainly gobble up 2nd line minutes with Carlo or be a perfectly cromulent 1D with McAvoy. I'd have to assume he can be had for short years at $4-5 a year.
Alec Martinez may not be a bad short term filler at 2LD either. Hes always been a solid two way defenseman, but just had a pretty good offensive season. Again, I'd think he could be had at 2nd pair money as well.
I'd also sniff around to see the acquisition cost on Seth Jones. Really sounds like he'll be shipped out this offseason, and since hes a free agent next season, I cant imagine you have to completely break the bank for him. Having a 1-2 punch of McAvoy-Jones at RD would be really exciting.
I was going to mention Adam Larsson, but looks like hes going to the Kraken for 4/16, which is a good deal for a Seattle. If thats what Larsson is getting, I'd assume guys like Suter and Martinez could be had for similar price on less years.
I don't see the Bruins being interested. He would easily be the worst defenseman defensively they've had in at least 10 years. Not saying I agree with the organization necessarily, but they do not have any appetite for that sort of player.I have been mentioning Barrie since March. Seems like a good fit.
Sheesh. Looking at Arizona's lineup. Not a lot I'd be interested in that Arizona may be willing to part with.
Connor Garland's rights?Sheesh. Looking at Arizona's lineup. Not a lot I'd be interested in that Arizona may be willing to part with.
Christian Dvorak? Nick Scmaltz? OEL (please...no, unless they retain at LEAST 5 mil a year on his contract), Chychrun would be nice. But I have no idea why Arizona would give him unless Boston is giving up real talent.
I don't know, man.
Maybe if DeBrusk goes the other way. They're pretty much the same player, just different wing.Connor Garland's rights?
agree, although I think while peak JDB is a bit more explosive, Garland has more sand in his bagMaybe if DeBrusk goes the other way. They're pretty much the same player, just different wing.
As always it depends on the contract. They need to get bigger on defense, and he fills that role. Ironically, he was the player that was drafted with the pick that the Bruins sent with Dennis Wideman (eventually flipped to LA) for Nathan Horton.Friedman predicts D Derek Forbort to Boston. Thoughts? Seems just like a bigger Kevan Miller.
Can Yandle be that guy paired with Carlo? Or his is game too far gone? He'd be OK as the 3rd pair guy with Clifton, but they should aim a lot higher for the top 4 guy. I'd also probably prefer Reilly to Forbort I'll take more offense from the bottom of the lineup guys.
He probably can, but he's another one dimensional guy. They keep talking about wanted a 200 foot player there and Yandle doesn't really fit the bill. Yandle strikes me as a 3rd pairing PP specialist these days. I would consider him, kinda like Forbort, as a Reilly alternative. Can Yandle be that guy paired with Carlo? Or his is game too far gone?
Schmidt it such a good fit. I hope that happens. He probably can, but he's another one dimensional guy. They keep talking about wanted a 200 foot player there and Yandle doesn't really fit the bill. I think Suter is the perfect guy, but Friedman kind of gave it an "eh, I don't know" when talking about the Bruins/Suter on his podcast yesterday. Guess we'll find out, he can sign whenever and supposedly was going to move quick.
Trade front, Schmidt still makes some sense. The Canucks have $21 million in cap space but need to sign Petterson, Hughes, Garland and Dickinson as RFA's. Schmidt can play both sides, but on the left they've got Hughes and OEL now so I would think Schmidt is expendable. Touch under $6 million for 4 more years.
Where are you getting these stats?Schmidt it such a good fit. I hope that happens.
Yandle's player card below. He's still really good offensively and puts up points. He was better last year than the last 2 by a long shot but if you look at that QoC he played some of the most sheltered minutes imaginable. He's essentially Krug with poorer defense.

Ya it's Jfresh. He's great. He uses the data from topdownhockey and puts them into the visualization.Where are you getting these stats?
To me, that reads as an agent trying to get someone to go to a 4th year. Even 3 for him is dumb.4-years for Suter is a pass for. I'd stretch it to 3 if that was what got it done, but 4 seems way too much.

It's well worth the patreon subscription. He has prospect cards with timeline data, player cards for all players, team cards, a WAR roster builder similar to capfriendly's armchair GM but with his modeled values included. They also just added timelines - so chronology of player production for offense and defense, which I really love. Highly Highly recommend it if you're a nerd like me.Thanks, I'll check it out. Looks awesome.
