Moose- you have been against this since it was first discussed on the BC football threads many years ago. But it is happening. I hear your complaints but a couple of points:
1. They have already measured out the field and the layout still fits in the ballpark despite the additions. This won't be a Wrigley fiasco of a few years ago.
2. Not sure if they will put the seats up against the monster. I have a photo of the kind layout with the seats (remember Buck Printing in center field before the Jumbletrom as Mumbles would say) and would post bit but I can't figure out how to do it on SOSH.
3. It is THEIR game. BC will get only about 5,000 tix for this and I am guessing they will be in the right field grandstands under the Budweiser seats. Tix will average $500 a pop since ND has already said they have to adjust the price to make the same gate revenue as they do in an 80,000 seat stadium. Their average seat price now is $294. Yup not a typo. (FWIW the tix I had for the SC game in LA this year were $65....25 yd line 40 rows up....quite a bit less than South Bend)
3. My first Pats game was at Fenway Pahhhk in 1966 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Sat in the bleachers. I was a little kid and my late father took me and my brother. So I understand what you are saying.
4. I'm sure this thing will sell out regardless as every wannabe and Red Sox cling on will be at the game (Lenny Clarke, Matt and Ben and all the rest). No one except real high rollers from BC will be at this game, unless you can score free tix.
5. Great recruiting tool and in 2 years BC may even be in a position to give them a game...and win it.
6. Late November night game. It could be a shit show weather wise or it could be in the 40s or 50s. Who cares? If it snowed it would be great!!!
Since it is a "road game" I see little if any down side to it.
Don't be surprised if this works that FSP looks into getting a bowl game ala Pinstripe Bowl or a yearly football game with the likes of Harvard-Yale, UMass-BC or maybe even.....BC-UConn.
