I'd think this is bad news for Jim Caldwell, generally speaking.

I also can imagine that Quinn wants to figure out where Calvin Johnson's head is (and whether Caldwell's retention will impact his thinking) before making a decision.

If Johnson decides he still wants to play, but somewhere else ... imagine the possibilities for media conspiracies

La Mancha.
That's his reaction to lazy posting. His reaction to literally everything else in the Universe was covered by the two quoted posts.

Jim Caldwell reaction shots exist, like when Crosby missed that field goal in Lambeau

Would rather lose McD than MP. Feel like we have a solid succesor in Brian Daboll whereas more worried about the DC successor

Returning to Quinn for a second, what was everyone's sense of the impact when Scott Pioli left? How did our drafting and cap management and roster transactions shift? On the one hand, Pioli was a bit part of us robbing teams blind for Moss and Welker, not to mention all the very successful drafts prior. On the other hand, it's not like our talent evaluation and roster construction fell off a cliff after he left after '08.

You guys are way more knowledgeable about this, tell me how to feel about Quinn leaving.

We have been better at drafting since Pioli left IMO. He was solid at the start but faded at the end. I wouldn't unless Caserio leaves

yes. my understanding is he didn't do the college draft. pro scouting, at which the Pats have been brilliant if their minor acquisitions with big impacts are proof of anything ,was Quinn's domain.

The last four or so drafts of the Pioli era are the worst of BB's tenure. Coincidentally or otherwise the drafts got markedly better as soon as he left.

Brendan Daly, Patrick Graham, and Josh Boyer all appeared to be pretty knowledgeable, passionate guys whom BB has "coached up".

I have no idea why any Pats fans would be worried about the "next man up", even knowing very little about that man, seeing as how it consistently has worked out. Few, if any, Pats fans were #TeamPatricia before he got the job. In fact, there was some bias for Pepper Johnson - because he was a name who we knew.

Any "preference" for Brian Daboll is the exact same thing: you've heard his name, so he's a "better choice" when there's really no evidence he's held in higher regard than Ivan Fears or whomever when it comes to promotion.

Keep Calm and Watch Do Your Job (Again).

Quinn has hired a few Patriots staff members

The Detroit Lions' front office is slowly turning into the New England Patriots' Midwestern bureau.

The Lions will hire Kevin Anderson as the team's head of football operations. According to the Lions' official team reporter, Anderson's title will be chief of staff and assistant to the general manager, Bob Quinn.

Anderson is the fourth person with Patriots ties to have been brought into the Lions' organization in the past few weeks, starting with Quinn, who was hired as GM on Jan. 8 after serving as New England's scouting director.

Quinn has since hired Kyle O'Brien, a former Patriots scout and Jacksonville's director of college scouting, as the director of player personnel.

Quinn also hired former Patriots scouting assistant Ron Miles as a scout and then chose to bring in Anderson, New England's director of player development, to be the chief of staff.

Anderson spent 10 seasons with the Patriots in football operations and the past five as the team's director of player development. He graduated from Indiana with a degree in sports marketing and management while working with the football team as an operations assistant.

Before heading to the Patriots, he interned with the Indianapolis Colts andHouston Texans.

Anderson appears to assume the role once held by Cedric Saunders, who was fired by the Lions last week.
