Verlander has been a complete dumpster fire this year with an ERA near 5. Between his contract and the Miggy extension, I think the Tigers might be in for a rough go of it in the not too distant future.SemperFidelisSox said:Now Verlander is getting knocked around in Game 2.
When they sign Lester and Sherzer this offseason, look out.cromulence said:Soler homers in his first AB. Hard not to be excited about the kids on the Cubs. Hope they can all grow up quickly and win one for my grandma, closing in on 90.
You missed the best part - the scout is the one who bought the ice cream for Montero!DrewDawg said:Mariners scout heckles Jesus Montero. Al Zarilla said:Lester pitching bottom of the first and Pujols gets a base hit to right. Reddick, who wasn't playing very deep, charged the ball and tried to throw him out at first. So, Albert gets all pissy, glaring at Reddick and then talking a blue streak to the A's first baseman. "Your RFer has the nerve to try to throw me out and take my hit away." Pujols has become a giant entitled dick, I think. And for what, what he did for the Cardinals?
Giving up Cespedes seems to have created a hole in their line-up. Dunn to the rescue, I hope.soxhop411 said:A's are falling apart.
Scoring problems? They sure do. The murmur about missing Cespedes has turned into a loud roar.InsideTheParker said:Game over. As have score
Brandon Moss turning into a pumpkin has hurt as much as Cespedes leaving.Al Zarilla said:Scoring problems? They sure do. The murmur about missing Cespedes has turned into a loud roar.
Samardzija and his gopher balls. 2 more tonight. 4 - 3 Houston now.MakMan44 said:A's are so frustrating. Just grounded out twice in a row to 3rd base with the base loaded and nobody out. No runs scored, inning over.
I watched that. Hindsight is 20 - 20, but Beane and maybe Melvin apparently felt that they had enough offense when letting Cespedes go. Problem is that a lot of the heavy lifting guys in the first half were unproven or career minor leaguers or career mediocre hitters that turned back into pumpkins. Moss, Norris, Vogt, Crisp, just about everybody except Donaldson has fallen off a lot. Moss has been the worst. This is not to say that Cespedes would have saved them either. They also have some poor hitters that get regular playing time like Callaspo and Sogard. Ugh. The "offense" Melvin sends out every day is atrocious.AMS25 said:Watching the A's right now is like watching a slow motion trainwreck. I'm having flashbacks to 2012 here.
Today's game was depressing. Top 9, Oakland leading 3-2, Astros at bat: Cook comes in. Walk, foul-out, walk, walk, then Cook gets pulled. Sacrifice fly, intentional walk, Dexter Fowler walks in a run. Oakland loses, 4-3.
