To call on a rookie starter who pitched 4 innings two days ago, when you've got a great pen, and it's fully rested? And the game is do or die? And the pitcher is RH and the batter crushes righties?
I haven't been this baffled by a move since Workman batted.

I still think Ventura threw the absolute worst possible pitch there, but yeah, Danny Duffy would've made all kinds of sense in that spot instead.Rudy Pemberton said:Usually you bring a SP into a spot like that out of desperation...a game 7 when your starter spits the bit. I have no knowledge of Yost. He's a bad in-game manager?InsideTheParker said:I fell asleep! Trouble w/ watching in bed. But what a dream to wake up to. That Yost does something stupid to lose the game can surprise no one.
Widely regarded as possibly the stupidest human being that's managing in the league today.Al Zarilla said:I have no knowledge of Yost. He's a bad in-game manager?

What is there to explain? He thought Ventura could get the job done, and he couldn't.soxhop411 said:Yost better explain himself in the postgame....

He had shutdown relievers in the pen, so of course he brings in a kid who started all season.

It a 1 game playoff, TBS needs to hire a new crew.
Apparently Yost is a guy who clings to his set bullpen roles. Herrera in the 7th, Davis in the 8th, and Holland to close. It's incredibly stupid but it might help explain why he went with Ventura instead of someone who had a better chance of not shitting the bed.E5 Yaz said:

He was awful against the Red Sox this year, giving up innings by inappropriate bunting in early innings, for example. Since then I read some stuff that indicated that is typical of his approach.Al Zarilla said:I have no knowledge of Yost. He's a bad in-game manager?
No comparisons to our mgr!

A rookie with no playoff experience no less, in the midst of an inning with guys on. Talk about setting up someone to fail.
And a guy who pitched 4 innings two days ago. Just a mind boggling stupid idea given the other options.Harry Hooper said:A rookie with no playoff experience no less, in the midst of an inning with guys on. Talk about setting up someone to fail.
He wanted Herrera, David, Holland to close the game, so he tried to steal some outs in the 6th. Duffy is clearly the correct move in hindsight, and I think Ventura should have had a clean inning at the very least, but it's easy to read why he sent Ventura out there.E5 Yaz said:

Once you mute it, that's it? Strange remote that can't be unmuted. Demuted?glasspusher said:
Thanks for making me not regret my decision to mute this game from the 2nd inning on
Yeah. I think it's also worth noting that the one run came in as a result of defensive incompetence and the other scored on a bloop to left. He looked a bit rough early on but he's pitched well tonight.JohnnyTheBone said:Lester looks dominant since they replaced the catcher.
