I'm kinda surprised more people aren't giving van Persie more criticism for not celebrating against a former club. Is there anyone out there who made a big deal of that?

There are definitely people who made a big deal. The away fans also sang the "she said no" chant (not sure when exactly), so I'd say I'm not exactly upset about him celebrating, let alone in front of the away fans.

I'm more upset he scored in the first place.  :rolling:

He's a cunt and he did what you'd expect a cunt to do. Fuck him and the horse he rode in on. He's not got Arsenal DNA.

Duh. He's not French.

Artur Boruc gifts Arsenal with a goal after with one of the most boneheaded, brain dead plays of all time. Arsenal hit two posts in the first 20.

There were about four or five different decision points on that goal where Boruc could have chosen to hoof the ball up the field, sideways or even behind him for a corner. "Brain dead" is an absolutely perfect description of it.

Not much else to get excited about in that performance, but it was solid - Southampton barely had a proper chance on goal - and it extended Arsenal's lead at the top to four points. Roll on Marseille...

Yeah, that Boruc error should be on Not Your Top Ten. That was awful-ly funny. Upset that Ramsey couldn't get that back heel to curl in for him, but that's about the only bone I can pick. Great effort from the team today.

A rules question. There looked to be a moment just before he fell where Boruc had no leverage to kick the ball clear but still could have dived on it. It was a back pass and so would have been an IFK in the box -- not great but still preferable to what in that moment looked to be an inevitable goal. But would there be a further sanction? Is deliberately handling a back pass to prevent a goal a red card or does that rule only apply to fouls?

Good weekend of results. Chelsea and City won, but Liverpool, Tottenham, and United all dropped points. Arsenal is 4 points clear. Unfortunately, they've got the mighty Cardiff next week in Wales. A home coming for a certain Welsh Gunner.

Marseille at the Emirates between then and now. A win all but secures a berth into the knockout stage. With a favorable result in the other match, Arsenal could be through. Big week ahead.

The rule as its written doesnt seem to indicate anything about getting a card for deliberately handling the ball so it SHOULDNT, but with Mark Clattenburg as the ref, who the hell knows.

ManU targeting Ramsey? It could be true.

"Robin sent him a picture of his Premier League winner's medal and a bathtub full of cash and that got Aaron's interest," said the source, who still doesn't exist. "Van Persie sealed it for him when he said that with all of United's international sponsors, Aaron could have everything from all the noodles he can eat when he's in the Middle East to free mobile phone use in Gabon. No man can turn that down."

Hahah

There were always weird unconfirmed rumors that Van Persie wanted Ramsey sold

Arsenal are just very methodical right now, winning and doing what they need to do. Frustrating they haven't clinched yet, still need a good performance at Napoli.

Arsenal only fails to advance if they lose to Napoli by 3+ goals and Dortmund beats Marseille. But just about any loss to Napoli coupled with a Dortmund win is going to land them in 2nd. Given the huge difference in quality between likely opponents from the 1st place and 2nd place pools in the round of 16, getting a draw against Napoli would be huge.

If Arsenal finish second, R16 opponent is very likely to be Madrid, Barca, Atletico, Bayern, or PSG. That's plenty of incentive to finish first.

With Ramsey missing that sitter today, may be it's about time they thought about selling him!!!!

Is that how it's done?

Anyway, everything I've heard about the match says that Wilshere was phenomenal. That's a great sign considering he's been a bit off the pace relative to Ramsey and Özil (I think those two are coming back to earth a little bit). Arsenal needs other players to pick up the slack when those guys aren't getting it done. Surprised to hear Özil took the penalty with both Giroud and Ramsey on the pitch. It would've been nice to get him a goal and some confidence, but penalties don't seem like Özil's thing, even if he is German. Just personality wise, he's very shy.

I'm gonna go ahead and call the game against Cardiff in Wales a big game because City and United dropped points there. Arsenal can't take them lightly. I hope Ramsey scores a hat trick in front of his former club's fans.

Overall performance was similar to the Napoli match. The penalty was...not good, but Ozil was great in the second half. Also, I don't know how left-footed Nacho is, but if there's any way he can fill in on the right, I never want to see Jenkinson in a meaningful situation again.

IIRC the Cardiff fans booed Ramsey relentlessly in both legs of the FA Cup tie against them right after his move. Not sure how they reacted during his loan spell a couple years ago, but I wonder if he remembers.

Yeah, I'm interested to see what kind of reception he gets. It's been a while since he officially moved away. He went back on loan there. He roots for Cardiff when he has time to watch them, so it's not like Cardiff aren't a part of his heart. He's the best thing Wales has going for it right now.

Nacho is pretty left footed. So yeah.

This game is fantastic. Wilshire hits the bar in the second minute, Ramsey's header on the best pass Ozil has had in an Arsenal uniform, Ramsey not celebrating, and near misses for both sides in the second half. Oh and Giroud with a massive brain cramp in the early goings, stopping his run when he thought he was offsides and wasn't.

Wenger is going to want to bring Theo on here, but with the game so tight I wouldn't be surprised to see the defense first strategy: Flamini; Monreal; and Vermealen.

Another game, another solid showing. As I said before, Cardiff is a team that plays well at home and really fights. I don't think today was an easy game, but I thought they handled the challenge very well. Cardiff had a couple close calls, but the back five, overall, had a terrific game. I do like clean sheets.

The build up to the second goal was absolutely titillating. Ramsey and Özil seem to be developing a connection that many of us will never be able to understand. It's magnificent. They're both dangerous on the ball, but I really feel like something good is going to happen every time Ramsey has it. It's a testament to his improvement over the last year.

Also, BENDTNER!!!!

Everton next. They're always tough.

On the most recent Tuesday Club podcast, Alan Davies was moaning that he'd love to fast-forward to May just to see what happens. That's pretty much where I am at the moment...this season is almost going too well to be fully enjoyed and appreciated. And while we can laugh at all of the critics who say "Arsenal hasn't defeated anyone significant yet" by pointing to Liverpool, Dortmund and several others, I think we all secretly fear that Manchester City, Chelsea and whoever we play in the Champions League knockout stages will be the *real* tests that define the season. Because we all know the dreaded blip must eventually arrive...right?

My biggest fear is injuries. I see five players that are not easily replaced - Ozil, Giroud, Ramsey, and the two center backs and that's a lot of players to be counting on to stay healthy.

It's a fun ride, though, so I want no part of fast forwarding to May.

I think we could weather a Kos injury with Verm but not a BFG injury.

Verm and Kos are similar and could interchange IMO
I think the logic here is right in terms of complimentary skill sets but that Kos is just a better player than Vermaelen at this point with a much stronger chemistry with the BFG. To me its pretty telling that Vermaelen hasn't really gotten much action since falling out of favor last February. I'm not sure what to expect from him at this point but it seems that Wenger certainly isn't all that enthusiastic about squad rotation at the position.

I feel like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop with this season but I guess I should be enjoying this.

It's nice to get a point but that was once again a poor performance in a big league game.
