Damnit, the Rangers won today and that clinched the presidents trophy. Nothing left for them to play for And they play Ottawa on Thursday.

Well, at the same time, Tampa Bay now has next to nothing to likely play for in that last game against us, they can't fall into 4th and seems difficult to think they will pass Montreal for the 2nd slot (the Habs finish against Toronto).

Pretty big win for the Wings.

Holy crap - Penguins trying to choke again!

I'm actually rooting for Ottawa to win in regulation now. Fuck you Pittsburgh.

What topsy-turvy world do we live in where the Bruins and Penguins might fight it out for the last playoff spot in the East?

I can't keep up. What're the reworked scenarios now?
We're in the scenario where the Bruins win their fucking games and let nancies worry about scoreboard watching.

Also, I think if Ottawa wins, the margin of error is razor thin. It's a little better if Pittsburgh stops impersonating toilet paper.

Not true.
if they want to be in before the last day of the season then that's their best chance. I don't expect Ottawa to lose to a Rangers team that has nothing to play for.

No one expected them to drop two points to the Toronto Maple Leafs either.

So the Penguins wrap up in Buffalo on Saturday. Remember that, because it could be crucial now.

Also, I hate to say this, but Montreal clinching the division before the weekend would do the Bruins favors.

So Bruins essentially are playing Game 5 of a series tomorrow, tied 2-2, with the last 3 on the road. Gotta win 2 to advance.

Well, could they have had the decency to suck out loud throughout the game instead of just the second half?

They've got that down too.  Blown leads left and right the last three weeks.

Or have the Sens lose out.  Or win one and tie one.  Several scenarios still in play.

The Sens goal to tie the game was so soft. How does Fleury not save that? How is he paid 5.75 a year?

"With the first overall pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, the Pittsburgh Penguins are proud to select, from the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles..."

That and a Stanley Cup.

The Penguins are a cautionary tale for those that think firing the GM and the coach cures all ills.

They're still paying for Shero though.  He left them Kunitz's, Dupuis's and Scuderi's contracts which are all massive albatrosses.  Rutherford was a horrific replacement though, so was Johnston as head coach.  Team needed a disciplinarian and got Bylsma again.

I know Greg29 will disagree, but I still don't know why they cleaned house so thoroughly. That and looking at the mastermind of the last ten years of Carolina Hurricanes hockey should not elicit a positive response.

Ottawa is doing the Bs a favor by not allowing them to back in.  If this team can't take 2 of 3 from teams not playing for anything, then they probably won't go far in the playoffs anyway.

I hate the Penguins so much. Goddammit I hate them.

The Isles fans I know are starting to panic too after tonite's loss. This stretch is very stressful for everyone it seems.

Well, if they beat Washington and then Florida, they'll have clinched in a little less than 48 hours from now.

Edit: Or if Ottawa loses in regulation on Thursday night, they can get in on Thursday night with only a win over either Washington or Florida (or OT/SO losses to both).  Or if Ottawa loses in OT/SO on Thursday night...well, you get the drift.

I think they needed to clean house thoroughly and waited far too long to do it.  It probably needed to happen after the debacle Philly series or for sure after they went "all in" and got swept by you guys.

Back to the Western Conference, the Jets hold on for the 1-0 win over St. Louis, and the Blues went after ol' Stuey. He took some abuse during the game.

Meanwhile, the Coyotes just tied the Flames 1-1 late in the 2nd, and the Kings are tied with the Oilers, also 1-1, about midway through the 2nd.

I mean, Ottawa winning that game in OT is truly worst case for the B's.

But this is exactly why hockey is the best sport in America.

Speaking as a Senators fan I'm just glad to watch some meaningful games down the stretch.  They've basically been in playoff mode since February 7 and lost 4 games in regulation since.

Also Mark Stone is the real deal.  I can't believe the Sens got this guy in the 6th round.

Sens pulled Hoffman out of the fifth round and Stone out of the sixth round.  That's some great drafting.

Also goalie "interference" should be reviewable, like yesterday - I mean this is a joke
