OK, so 3/5 of the starting rotation is on the IL, formerly known as DL. OK, so our SS is out for the season and our big first baseman is out for who knows how long. OK, we can't play our DH b/c our better-hitting third baseman crashes into his playmates and injures them and himself. OK, so the second baseman we got for an apparently healthy Sale has still not shown up on the field, OK. So we worry, but then Abreu cheers us up and Wong hits home-runs and some pitchers I've never heard of until very recently get the job done against a good team. So we begin to hope. If only so-and-so can get healthy and if only whatshisname can really pitch. . . ETC.

In any case, don't worry, be happy. Or worry. Remember Sox fans, Anxiety is Good for You.
And GEAUX SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
p.s. Game Begins at 1:10. Get your landscaping done early.

Twice now they’ve gone with Refsnyder over Yoshida vs a RHP. I think we can safely infer that Yoshida will never play the OF outside of an emergency?

Hope that doesn't mean Raffy reaggravated his knee going first to home.

I hope so, they have 5 good OF and 1 bad one.

Thats a pretty grim diagnosis because Refsnyder sucks against righties, 14 plate appearances from this year aside.

But…maybe it’s true.
It's not just his SSS this year though. His career numbers against RHP are bad, and he was terrible last year, but that 124 wrc+ in 2022 combined with how he's looked so far is enough to make me want to ride the hot streak while he's got it at the very least. If he goes back to sucking then yeah, it's an easy platoon situation.

Dalbec has to run into one sooner or later. One being a baseball. Although I could see it if you thought I meant "wall" because he has been playing like he is seriously visually impaired

Also, Triston McKenzie has more walks than strikeouts this year

Yoshida’s defensive metrics were bad last year and he didn’t really pass the eye test, either, but it’s wild that he’s been completely relegated to DH. The same manager that was putting Kyle Schwarber anywhere he could stick him doesn’t dare let Yoshida roam the outfield. The internal metrics on his defense must be off the charts terrible.

He got into one game in the outfield this year. I don't remember the circumstances, but I don't think he did any damage.

Anyway, I hate taking Wonger out of the lineup. I think he may be...good?

In the future, along with robot umpires, we'll have robot managers who make out lineups strictly by running all the advanced stats in their supercomputer brains in nanoseconds.

Yoshida only went to LF because they were shorthanded, McGuire got ejected and they had no one else to put on the field. (Orioles extra inning game, or was it Cleveland)

I can see Reese being the better choice vs a RHP who walks everyone. Wong does enjoy swinging out of the zone.

Maybe Cora feels like the ballparks come into play when it comes to Yoshida in the OF. My guess is the only spot he will get in the field this year is LF, and the only ballpark it will happen in is Fenway.

Good point.

I think it's likely Yoshida gets some time, barring acquisitions (since there's no relevant promotion candidate in the high minors at this point.)

My reasoning:

Rafaela is the primary SS. His days off are days off.

So Duran, O'Neill, Abreu are now the primary OFs. Refsnyder is the #4 OF who can spell them when needed.

But IF Refsnyder is also a 1B option, Yoshida becomes the 4th OF. Even some games at Fenway in LF will help, since all 3 primaries can cover CF and RF in some combination.

Also, if any of those guys struggle or are injured, Yoshida is the depth LF.

He may not be great, but you don't want him getting entirely rusty out there.

I remember watching that episode of Fantasy Island as a kid (dubbed in Spanish for our local TV).
Watching that now it gives me a weird vibe, Why is Tom La Sorda managing a Dodger pitcher who will eventually face Steve Garvey (of the Dodgers?) I mean I know it's Fantasy Island and all but at least make the lineup realistic I guess.
agreed, that lineup confused me (though I liked hearing Fred Lynn of the Red Sox announced as one of the formidable batters). Also, how was Lasorda ever that thin? was that part of the Fantasy Island plot too?

Not showing up the umpire on a bad call is a rule as baseball. But with the box everyone can tell when a call is missed. Seems an outdated rule.
