Jarring to see two Oakland players on here and just one Red Sox player (Verdugo). Going strictly by WAR, that is fair--three A's have more WAR than the #2 Sox player (Connor Wong!). Realistically, Oakland will get only the one courtesy player, probably Rooker. The Red Sox will probably have just the one as well, though as Yoshida has better offensive numbers i could imagine it being him.

I can’t imagine 3 players from the 18 win Royals, either. I’d go with Perez; Chapman and Witt don’t seem deserving.

That's not that great of a backup defensive OF for AL (but who cares)

NL is West-heavy in the projections, I am not sure I buy that.

Maybe, but... Chapman has thrown 22.1 innings, has a K rate of 15.31 per 9, an ERA of 2.82, and is tied for 3rd among all relievers in WAR; Salvy is leading all catchers in HR, has a OPS of .790, and is still a "name"; Witt's got 10 HR, 20 SB, and while his rate stats aren't great, he's played 63 games -- by the time the ASG rolls around, if Seager has enough PA or GP, he'll make sense to slot in.

Those Canadians really stuff the ballots.

Kiermaier in 5th? GTFO

Bichette with 3x as many votes as Wander? GTFO

So is it simply a product of the size/loyalty of Red Sox Nation or are five other AL teams in way worse shape at SS than the Sox are?

You'd think there are only 6-7 teams in the AL looking at the fan voting. Salvador Perez is the only AL Central player in the top 5 voting at his position.

So the guys that Kike is ahead of in the voting: Tim Anderson, Carlos Correa, Aledmys Diaz, Amed Rosario, Bobby Witt Jr. Seems like partly brand recognition, partly unenthusiastic fan bases.

Rangers fans stuffed the ballots. Not to say they didn’t deserve it, but Jung, Semien, and Heim join Seager as AS Starters

Betts and JD Martinez voted ASG starters.

Obligatory why can’t the Red Sox get players like that

Freeman joins them as Dodgers starters

If Garcia beats out Luis Robert and the others, there can be just 3 teams representing the AL as starters (not counting the pitcher)

Shohei makes it as both a P and a (D)Hitter

Keller lone pirates representative
Castillo lone Mariners (home team) representative

Verdugo semi-snubbed, but could be replacement for Yordan, Judge and/or Ohtani being a P too. They have to add a roster spot for that, no?

Yeah Wander is probably a bigger snub than anyone on the Sox.

Though Verdugo and Yoshida are decent candidates to be injury replacmeents.

The four of the biggest stars of the next 10 years not going for four different reasons

Jrod (undeserved to go)
Wander (snubbed)
Tatis (steroids)
EDLC (not enough games played)

Kenley getting in is a joke, and it wasn't even fan voting apparently. Verdugo should get in.
If they had to take a reliever due to numbers, Martin has had a much better season by any statistical measure. Jansen just has more saves. What a stupid joke of a selection.
I would pick Verdugo, Martin, Paxton maybe even Yoshida or Duran before Jansen. This was simply a case of the league office looking at Jansen's save totals and thinking he must be having a great season. No deep analysis went into this pick

Agreed, but I have doubts the save numbers were the selling point here- probably name recognition mostly.

Whit Merrifield is the most puzzling All Star selection in recent memory. The Blue Jays have other guys on the team, so he’s not a required representative. His traditional stats are mediocre. There are legitimate superstars with better stats that could take his place. He’s been an All Star before, so he’s not in on a sort of veteran recognition thing.

Make it make sense.

Just say they have 3:30 on the timer absent actually earning the bonus. If everyone gets 30 seconds on top of the 3 minutes regardless it’s not bonus time.

Perennially a pet peeve.

Seems odd that Seattle has had the all star game now twice since 2001 since Fenway (1999) and Wrigley (1990) have hosted
