The tenth one (where Beltre chucks his glove at Andrus) is absolutely awesome.

That's the one that made me double-take.  It was a line drive over his head and he threw his glove up, right?  If he had managed to hit the ball it would have been a 3-base error (rule 7.05 or some such).

I'd also love to know how much of the head thing is instinctive reaction and how much at this point is playing to the stereotype.  Good times either way.

He's talking about the one with the meeting at the mound where Andrus taps him on the head.

I know jettisoning Youkilis wasn't really a possibility after 2010, but I wouldn't mind if he stuck around after 2011. What a funny dude.

Since the Rangers signed Slappy McBluelips (and given how that signing crippled the Rangers for a time, I think it's arguable that that was a "good" signing), has there been a better FA position player signing than Beltre by the Rangers?  Maybe Matt Holliday?

Adrian Beltre has turned Elvis Andrus into one of my favorite players in baseball.

If he played for Boston, he'd be right up there with Pedroia for my favorite player.  He looks like he just has a shit load of fun playing the game.  Also, I miss Adrian Beltre. A lot.

The 2003 Rangers had Chan Ho Park, Carl Everett, and Jay Powell making $25.4 million and providing 1.1 in fWAR . ARod was making $22 million and providing 9.1. I don't think it's arguable that it was a good signing (it was), or that he crippled the Rangers (he didn't).

David Ortiz and Vlad Guerrero come to mind.

I can never get on the Rangers bandwagon for some reason (Not a huge fan of the park either) but I could watch Andrus messing with Beltre a million times and it would never get old.

I wish some of the Andrus clips contained reaction from Ron Washington and the Rangers bench

On how much Adrian Beltre hates having his head touched:
Oh, he hates it a lot. I mean, he really hates it. If you wanted to get spanked really hard, just try it.

On why he always tries to touch Beltre's head after he hits a home run:
Well, because he’s right in front of me. If he gives you his back, you can try. If you can see everybody rubs it and then moves. Nobody rubs it and stays right there. You have to be quick.

It was simple, Youk stays at 1st, they sign Beltre long term.  No Adrian trade.  Youk at 1st stays healthy (or healthier) and they have Rizzo in the minors.

Yeah, thanks Theo.

Scutaro in some of those is like, I suppose I should get in on the Beltre head rub stuff because I want to be a team player, but I'm afraid I'm going to get killed.

Elvis Andrus is now officially my favorite non-Red Sox.

And with he and Beltre on the same team, it's getting harder not to kind of like the Rangers (GWB pedigree notwithstanding)

The Sox need to trade for Beltre, Andrus and Viktor to have them all on the same team.  Then have a NESN channel devoted completely to the Sox dugout during games.

If we can get Andrus to touch Beltre's head DURING a pop-up, well, I might have a heart attack.

I love Beltre.  Wish he was still here.  The gifs are hilarious.

Back to Beltre just for a moment.  I know this has been talked about here before, but he has to be at least in the strong running for the HOF, right?  As of this moment, here are his career #s:

1214 r, 384 hr, 1413 rbi, .283/.335/.478/.813, 114 ops+

Here is the b-ref list of similar players through age 34:

  1. Ron Santo (884) *
  2. Al Kaline (847) *
  3. Eddie Murray (839) *
  4. Aramis Ramirez (834)
  5. Cal Ripken (822) *
  6. Dale Murphy (820)
  7. Shawn Green (819)
  8. Carl Yastrzemski (819) *
  9. Jim Rice (819) *
  10. Billy Williams (812) *

I mean, that's a pretty serious list.  Rice, Yax, Ripken, Murray, Kaline, Santo, B. Williams, all HOFers.  Murphy was a borderline HOF guy.

It's remarkable that this is even a possibility given the way his career line looked at age 31 when he came to Boston after his 5 years in Seattle. He's been a .900 OPS player from age 31 to 35. Can you imagine what his profile would be today if he had played his peak years (Age 26 - 29) anywhere else?

I do think his defensive reputation (and 4 Gold Gloves) will help tip the scale for him, especially if he maintains a similar line and ends up with around 425 to 450 homers.

That he puts up the numbers he does while playing stellar D at the hot corner has to tip the scales in his favor. Half those guys are OF/1B where you expect production. Santo is prob the best comp here as he was also a 3B.

Odor's reaction is the best. He flinches like Beltre is actually going to start throwing haymakers.

For me, he will always be the one that got away. I LOVED having him on the Sox.

This isn't an animated gif, but:

ANAHEIM -- Garrett Richards came into the Angels’ clubhouse proudly holding a piece of paper Saturday afternoon. Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre had sent him an invoice for $300 after Richards broke three of his bats Friday night.

It was a real invoice, like Beltre went to an office-supply store and bought a pack of them or something. “Cash only, no checks,” he wrote above his signature.
