Canceled kind of implies that they don't tend intend to play a doubleheader tomorrow. Wonder if Portland's season is just over?

It looks like it's only supposed to rain from 2 to 4 today with winds up to 20 mph. Seems like they should be able to play a game this evening if they wanted to?

Supposed to by sunny all day tomorrow with winds up to 9 mph, so it seems like they could play a doubleheader tomorrow if they wanted.

Don't know if they have other events scheduled for the park or anything I guess, but they should make it happen.

Greenville starts their series with Hudson Valley tomorrow at 2:05 in Hudson Valley. Game will be available for free on MiLB. Starters haven't been announced, yet.

Feels like they should roll with...

Sunday - Perales
Tuesday - Penrod
Wednesday - Yordanny

Politi is not the most exciting interview subject.

“The main thing is just getting healthy.” Politi said. “I have dealt with a few injuries this year that I have pushed through. They have made it a little taxing. I have tried to push through it and finish the season as strong as I could. It’s just getting my arm healthy again and back to 100% and getting back in the pitching lab and working on my pitches to get them back to where they should be.”
He's a guy who it may have been interesting to give some MLB run this year, though, to see if he's part of their plans.

But he's 27 & pitched worse this year as a closer (4.61 ERA/4.96 xFIP) than he did last year in a multi-inning relief role (2.41 ERA/4.08 xFIP), so it probably makes sense not to 40 him & have him part of a relief pitching shuttle to the MLB team next year if he's still around.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
I was tempted to name the thread "Big KOK on display in Worcester", but decided against it.
Heh.

It's a bit odd though to see these three sort of lumped together in a rehab situation, mostly because they all seem to be going in completely different directions.

-Kluber's career is over unless he's able to spin himself as a bullpen arm, which he spectacularly failed to do in the majors.

-Ort (while an enjoyable punching bag) has control issues, which might be fixable, but don't require him throwing to ML pitchers.

-But you've just got to root for Kelly to do well after his injury. He seems like he can transition to a serviceable RH RP.

Yeah, Kelly has been useful over parts of the last 2 seasons. He actually could have been a key part of the pen this year if he didn't run into health issues. He's in the same bucket as Mills & Mata in that regard (& Joely to some extent).

It makes sense that they're all trying to get a few innings in before the end of the season, though, with Worcester almost the only place left to do it.

I think them doing right by Kluber is good PR to other players & agents, & he's probably a good guy to have around the WooSox pitchers.

& Ort? He's probably going to be seen as a poster boy for Bloom's failings, & then go somewhere else & succeed & people may realize it was the coaching all along.

I was thinking for my next rankings project to stop differentiating between prospects & Major League players & just rank everyone in the org from 1 to 300 or whatever.

There would be some logistical issues with that, though, including whether to factor in salary & what exactly they're actually being ranked on. Remaining MLB career? Value to the org?

It is really, really windy here. Not 20mph by any stretch of the imagination. Neither team is going into the postseason so tomorrow is the last game; the team loses the gate for today regardless. No one wants to play two tomorrow, believe me.

Just added a new column to my SS.

Oddanier Mosqueda is the only current prospect still left over from Ben Cherington.

Weather.com lied to me. But that's all fair.

I wonder how to categorize the guys signed between DD's firing & CB's hiring.

The "Gang of 4", O'Halloran, Ferreira, Scott & Romero were in charge during that period.

Eddie Romero is the international guy, & it's IFAs in question, so I'll label those guys "ER".

Side note... how often do y'all think about the Roman Empire?

I've been seeing this meme & I'm always like uhhh never... but I realize I'm in here every day talking about ROMAN...

& THE ROMAN EMPIRE is a pretty good nickname for him. So maybe I'm not an exception after all.

When I start to revisit my ranks I start by moving people based on feel. My feel had Stephen Scott dropping a good ways. Let's see if my feel is supported by reality...

In his last 21 games, Scott is 9-74 with 1 double, 1 triple, 0 homers, 14 walks & 22 strikeouts.

That is a slash of .122/.261/.162 for a .423 OPS.

Yes, it's not a huge sample, but it's troubling for a guy who needs to rake to find a job & is already 26.

Worcester lost 7-2.

Rio allowed 2 runs in 5 innings, Kelly allowed 2 runs in 0.2 innings, Shugart allowed 3 runs in 1.1 innings, Ort pitched a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout & Ryan Fernandez pitched an 8-pitch 1-2-3 9th.

Rosier didn't start, but pinch hit in the 9th & got a single. He's gotten 1 hit in all 4 of his games since getting called back up & is 4-10 with 1 double, 1 walk & 1 strikeout.

Koss was 2-4 with a double.

Valdez was 1-2 with 2 walks.

The prestigious law firm of Sogard, Crook & Kavadas each went 1-4.

Scott was 0-3 with a walk & 3 strikeouts.

So 9-77, 15 walks, 25 strikeouts.

He's making it easier to ensure he doesn't get claimed R5.

Side note...Hernandez was also 0-3 with a walk & 3 strikeouts & seem to recall him struggling lately, just not as much (he did get his 2nd steal today). Let's find out!

Hernandez is 7-46 since 8/31 with 3 doubles, 6 walks & 12 strikeouts.

That's a slash of .152/.250/.217 (.467 OPS).

So yes, just not as badly as Scott.
