Scott, Rafaela, and Wilyer all going nuts in AAA sure does give the team a lot of options in terms of trade chips, replacements, etc.

Yeah, it's going to be a fascinating off season (which is probably why I got so carried away with those 2024 threads).

Thing is, I am having a hard time taking any stats from the International League seriously. Pitchers and hitters. It's turned into a video game league.

Ravelo is currently 1 of 3 Salem players who are 0-2 with 2 strikeouts. Hopefully his day gets better or it probably won't be the happiest poster signing.
Good good. RBI single for Ravelo.

He pitched 2 innings only allowing that run.

Dan Altavilla pitched a scoreless 7th. They're really taking Altavilla's rehab slow.

Altavilla had a walk in his 1 inning of work.

Reidis Sena on for the 8th.

Yeah, any insight into what that's about? Any possibility the hitters are just good?

I ask because Wilyer and Scott have had the sort of plate discipline combined with bat control and pop this year that makes me really excited. Wilyers year doesn't look far off Casas's from a year ago. And Scott and Rafaela are hitting miles better than they did in AA, better than recent promotes like Duran and Wong.

I think there's reason for cautious optimism.

Prior to today, Noah Dean played 17 games for Salem, & started in all of them... without much success.

7.36 ERA in 47.2 innings with a 2.16 WHIP. 65 strikeouts & 56 walks.

Dean came out of the bullpen today after Paez started & has pitched 4 scoreless innings, 1 hit, 2 walks & 6 strikeouts.

Salem trailing 5-3 headed to b9.

Greenville won 11-2.

Brock Bell pitched a scoreless 9th with a walk & 2 strikeouts. More on him in a bit.

Greenville had 10 hits, & all 9 starters had at least 1.

Max Ferguson was the only player with 2. He went 2-4 with a homer (4). He was acquired in the Jay Groome trade.

Roman was 1-5 with a double & 2 strikeouts.

Teel was 1-4 with a double & a walk.

Coffey was 1-2 with 2 walks.

Prior to this season, due to COVID & injuries, Brock Bell had not pitched since 2019. Not surprisingly, he got off to a bit of a slow start, but he has been lights out since & has been closing lately.

Bell has a 2.28 ERA at Greenville on the season.

In his last 18.2 innings over 12 games he has allowed 1 earned run on 9 hits & 3 walks with 22 strikeouts.

That's an ERA of 0.48 with an 0.64 WHIP.

I should mention that ROMERO went 1-3 with a walk & a hbp.

& Lyis Ravelo went 1-3 with a walk on Luis Ravelo poster night.

Dean was more of A Guy last year in the draft than some of the other college signs, and signed for close to slot, but he fits right in with most of the pitcher picks Chaim has made.

Basically, can we recreate Kutter Crawford a few times over where maybe a new pitch or tweak of some kind results in a capable starter and/or a couple extra ticks on the gun results in a potential serious multi-inning relief talent.

Dean reportedly touched 100 last year but hadn’t shown it yet. Will be curious to find out if there are any gun readings attached to his performance but “electric” is obviously a good sign.

It is so so early to say something like this but it kind of feels already that the only “question” around Teel will be how much power he can hit for.

I still have a few more questions than that...I think to some extent he's ran good on BABIP & there's still a range of outcomes in various directions...& the "when" question is still interesting.

But that's definitely an interesting one in terms of ceiling.
