Not much to get excited about in Greenville right about now, but third baseman, Carlos Asuaje is putting together a pretty nice little season.  Through 83 games and 337 PA's, he's hitting .311 with a .947 OPS.  One of the most impressive stats to me is that he already has 41 extra base hits (21 doubles, 10 triples and 10 homers).  He's got a 52/38 K/BB ratio, and he doesn't turn 23 until November.  Anyone know if he has a chance of moving up through the organization?  I don't see him referenced much in the conversations regarding the top prospects for the Sox.

he seems very much in need of a promotion.  I don't think he's considered a prospect, but with these numbers, he ought to at least get a chance at Salem, and see what happens...

Asuaje is 22 in A- ball, so let's not get too excited.  They recently promoted Jantzen Witte to play 3rd up at Salem and Mike Miller is tearing the cover off the ball at 2B, so there's not really anywhere for Asuaje to play in Salem.  Portland has Coyle and Almanzar (who is hitting the cover off the ball since returning), so I don't see Miller jumping up to Salem this year.

Asuaje certainly impressed, though. 41 XBHs and 10 HRs for a 5-9 infielder are promising results, as are his BB/K rates.  Despite all that, I'd still not even put him in the top 25 or so prospects in the system.

You're crazy.  Don't just look at the stats.  Margot is a top ten prospect in most organizations and might be for the Sox by the end of the year.  His tools are off the charts.  Rijo is an 18 year old holding his own against 20+ year olds.  Asuaje is having a nice year, but he definitely is not the top 5 players to get excited about in at GVL.

Unfortunately that is progress for Callahan.
