Anderson Espinosa -- finally, a pitching prospect with top of the rotation stuff putting up stats to match at an appropriate level.  Dream big here.  He's in my top 10 right now, maybe top 5.

I will follow Thumper's daddy's advice in discussing any other pitchers. (Pat Light, sigh).

Moncada is really starting to heat up.  That it took him that long to start dominating low-A commensurate with what we should have expected based on his Cuban league numbers should be a cautionary tale for anyone who is currently disappointed with Castillo (abstracting from his inability to stay healthy).  These guys took a long time off from baseball, and you can't just expect to pick it back up in a couple months at the highest level.   It's going to be fun watching Yoan move up, and hopefully Rusnay will find a way to stay on the field.

Cecchini with a 4 for 5 night -- hopefully that is a turning point in his woeful season to date and he gets back to being the guy who looked like Wade Boggs with speed up through AA.

Since we had an outbreak of concern about Chavis in his prospect thread three days ago, he's had back-to-back multi-hit games.

Who's going to start the Marco Hernandez adopt-a-prospect thread?  He seems like he should start getting consideration in some top 20s around here.

JBJ continues to pile up stats for Pawtucket.  And in his last attempt to play in the majors he looked less overmatched than usual.  Good times.

Garin and JBJ were vastly overhyped by a lot of us if you actually go back and look at the stats and adjust for age.

He struck out a bit and never really hit for power outside of half a season at Salem, and his ISO dropped moving up to AA and AAA. He had a hot August to save his season last year.

At least with JBJ, he's performing now.

It seems like the Red Sox have decided this year in particular to have their pitchers focus on adding an extra MLB-quality pitch (Ball and Owens being the most obvious). That of course results in a higher walk total.

Five walks is unusual for Kopech - anyone know if he's working on something or if this was just an unusual night?

With 2 HBPs, it seems he may just not have had his typical control of his pitches yesterday.  Maybe though it was an increased use of off-speed pitches.  He's been said to rely heavily on his fastball right now, and has dominated to date, so perhaps the organization has told him to start working on secondary pitches in order to advance to Salem.

Moncada is now up to .378/.463/.511 post-ASB in Greenville, with an 11/5 K/BB and 9 steals.

His command is still iffy on the offspeed stuff, and he does lose command of the fastball from time to time.  The first time I saw him he didn't make it out of the 3rd because he couldn't find the strike zone.  Not surprising for a HS kid.

I don't see him moving up to Salem this year.  He is on a pitch count program as they are trying to build up his stamina and get him used to being in a rotation as they have done with previous HS signings.  It's the college signs that move to Salem after the All Star break if they are too good for the Sally.

But that fastball...damn.
