FCL Sox won 4-2 in a 7 inning game. Not sure why it was 7 innings, but that's ok.

Luis Cohen did in fact start & pitch 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits & a walk with 6 strikeouts.

Stijn Van Der Schaaf pitched 2 scoreless innings for the save, 1 hit, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. He got his 1st save & lowered his ERA to 8.59.

They had 2 hitters play the entire game without recording an at bat...

JOHANFRAN was 0-0 with a walk & 2 HBP & Fraymi De Leon went 0-0 with a walk, a HBP, 2 runs & a steal.

YUTE went 2-3 with a double & 2 RBI.

Gilberto Jimenez went 2-3 with a double... lowering his FCL batting average to .727 with a 2.182 OPS. It might be time for him to end the rehab stint & return to his regularly scheduled Greenville team.

For some reason I find it interesting when IFAs get signed during the season & start doing good things in the DSL right away... even if it tends not to last.

The Sox signed Deybi Salcedo on July 3rd, 2 days before his 19th birthday, with no bonus & today he pitched his 2nd scoreless inning for Red Sox Red. He pitched a 1-2-3 inning with 2 strikeouts & now has retired all 6 batters faced with 3 strikeouts.

DSL Red beat the DSL Nats 12-4.

Juan Henriquez (#70) started & pitched 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits & 2 walks with 3 strikeouts.

Gerardo Rodriguez (#102) went 5-5 with a homer (2), double (6), with 4 runs & 3 RBI. He now has a .370 average & .952 OPS.

Franyer Noria went 4-5 with a double & triple. He did not make my Top 180 prospects list, but in my defense, even after today, he still only has a .200 average & .576 OPS.

Yohander Linarez (#170) went 3-5 with a double.

Nixson Cueche (#147) went 2-5 with a double.

Ricardo Rodriguez started for DSL Blue but the 17 y/o only lasted 3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits & 2 walks with 4 strikeouts, raising his ERA to 3.91.

My apologies to the Rodriguez family as he should have been in my Top 180 list.

He's from Maracay, VZ & signed for $50k in January.

Happy 28th birthday to Joe Jones.

The Sea Dogs relief pitcher was acquired as a Minor League free agent this February. He throws in the mid-90s with a decent slider, so I guess he's Kaleb Ort (no offense Joe Jones).

He has a 3.97 ERA this season across A+ & AA in 34 innings, with 36 strikeouts & a 1.265 WHIP.

YOEY was 1-4 with a triple & a walk.

STARLYN was 1-2 with 2 walks.

Kleyver Salazar was 1-3 with a walk, a double & 3 RBI.

Corey Rosier was 2-3 with a homer.

Marcelo Mayer was 1-4 with a triple in his 3B debut.

Phillip Sikes was 2-4 with a double.

Worcester lost 8-3, despite 4 scoreless innings of relief from Jake Faria, 2 hits, 0 walks, 6 strikeouts.

The Blizzard went 1-3 with 2 walks & 2 steals (33).

Roberto Hernandez was 1-3 with a double.

Ceddanne was 1-5 with 2 strikeouts & that homer.

Jedixson Paez pitched 5 innings for Salem, allowing 1 run - 3 hits, 0 walks, 1 HBP, 7 strikeouts. 78 pitches, 56 strikes.

Probably would have been easier without 2 Coffey errors.

Paez has been good in his last 4 starts. 19 innings, 2 runs, 13 hits, 1 walk & 17 strikeouts. 0.95 ERA, 0.737 WHIP. Not bad for a 19 y/o.

JDE has been on a good run. In his last 6 starts he has pitched 32 innings, allowing 8 earned runs on 26 hits & 7 walks with 31 strikeouts. His 2.25 ERA during that timeframe has lowered his ERA on the season to 4.46.

Salem won 5-1. Marques Johnson pitched the last 2 innings, 6 up, 6 down, 3 strikeouts. Johnson turned 23 on the 4th of July & was the Red Sox 11th round pick last year.

Cutter Coffey was 3-4 with a HBP (& 2 errors).

Mikey was 0-5. No strikeouts, though, so I'll just blame BABIP luck.

Alexis Hernandez was 1-4 with a double.

Yorberto Mejicano was 1-3 with a walk.

Ryan Fitzgerald's rehab stint with the FCL Sox is over & he's starting for Worcester today at 2B. He hit a 2-run double & Worcester is winning 5-0 in the 3rd.

Grant Gambrell got off to a rough start or Portland, allowing a lead-off homer & then another run in the 1st, but he settled in & didn't allow any runs in the next 5 innings.

Final line for the game (assuming he's done after 101 pitches): 6 innings, 2 earned runs, 6 hits, 2 walks & 9 strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 3.47 in 11 starts since being promoted to Portland.

The 25 y/o Gambrell was acquired in the Andrew Benintendi trade & is eligible for the Rule V draft in December.
