Might as well start beating the drum for Devers to be in either Lowell or Greenville by the end of the year. 125 ab's into DSL and GCL and he's still treating it like church league softball.

There's certainly no one blocking him at Greenville.

Nice to see Kopech put up the kind of line you expect from a first round pick. Trey Ball could take lessons.

STORIES

PAWSOX

Game Story

Toledo touched up Pawtucket starting pitcher Matt Barnes for seven runs in 4.2 innings pitched and the Mud Hens scored eight two-out runs to defeat the PawSox, 10-5, Saturday night at Fifth Third Field to win their second straight game in the series.

Barnes (4-7) allowed 13 baserunners on nine hits and four walks. After Pawtucket took a 2-0 lead early, Toledo plated three runs in the second, two in the third and three more in the fifth to break the game open. The Mud Hens collected 14 hits on the night with catcher James McCann going 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored.

With the score tied at 3 in the third, Toledo took the lead for good with a pair of two-out runs. McCann's RBI double gave the Mud Hens the lead, then an error on third-baseman Mike McCoy on Ben Guez's grounder plated a run to make the score 5-3.

McCann singled in the fifth to begin a two-out rally against Barnes. A walk to Guez brought reliever Jose Valdez into the game, but Valdez walked Jordan Lennerton to load the bases. Danny Worth followed with a two-run single to left that increased the lead to 7-3, then Ezequiel Carrera lined an RBI single to make it a five-run game.

Pawtucket (50-48) scored a pair of runs in the sixth when Toledo shortstop Hernan Perez dropped Corey Brown's bases-loaded pop up with two outs. But the Mud Hens collected a pair of insurance runs in the eighth charged to Miguel Celestino, highlighted by McCann's fourth hit of the night, an RBI single.

Alex Hassan's two-run home run (3) in the second put the PawSox ahead 2-0 against Toledo starter Mike Belfiore. Belfiore, making a spot start, lasted only four innings and allowed three runs. Reliever Corey Knebel (1-1) did not allow a run or a hit in 2.1 innings of work and was credited with the victory.
SEADOGS

Game Story

The Fisher Cats returned the favor from Friday night and plated a run in the first inning against Brian Johnson and the Sea Dogs. Kevin Nolan hit a one out double to left, which was bobbled by Keury De La Cruz and the runner moved to third. Andy Burns followed with a sacrifice fly to right and put the 'Cats in front 1-0.

Radhames Liz came out and tossed two scoreless innings, but ran into trouble in the third. The veteran righty was greeted by a leadoff double off the bat by Ryan Dent; he then hit Heiker Meneses, and gave up a bunt single to Peter Hissey, which loaded the bases for Shannon Wilkerson.

The center fielder connected for a two-run single and gave the Sea Dogs a lead they would not relinquish. Liz (2-2) was shaken up and loaded the bases again with nobody out. The righty then hit both Michael Almanzar and David Chester, which plated two more runs, and upped the lead to 4-1.

Johnson (8-2) settled into a groove after the first and retired a stretch of seven in a row before a leadoff walk began the fourth. The southpaw worked around a couple of base runners in the fourth before he had a perfect fifth and sixth innings.

Michael Crouse stepped in to begin the seventh and greeted the southpaw with a mammoth solo home run over the Maine Monster, cutting the Portland lead to 5-2. Johnson finished his second complete game of the season by retiring the final three hitters in order.
SALEM

Game Story

Carson Blair hit a solo home run over the left field wall in the top of the ninth inning to give the Salem Red Sox a 2-1 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Blair was 3-3 with a walk to help snap Salem's five game losing streak.

Kyle Kraus was outstanding in relief, picking up the win after two and a third of scoreless ball. Blake Wood picked up the loss for Wilmington. Kyle Martin finished off the Rocks in the ninth for his sixth save.

Joe Gunkel was great for the Sox in a no decision. The right-hander bounced back from a rough outing, allowing a lone unearned run on two hits in five and two thirds inning pitched. Jonathan Dziedzic was excellent for Wilmington as well, allowing just a run on seven hits in six innings of work. Dziedzic picked up seven strikeouts.

It took just three batters for the Sox to strike first. Matty Johnson singled to lead off the game, followed by a single by Mike Miller. With first and third, Jantzen Witte hit a sacrifice fly to right feel to score Johnson and give the Sox a 1-0 lead.

The game stayed tied 1-0 until the sixth. Jack Lopez reached on an error by third baseman Mario Martinez, and was sacrificed to second by Raul Mondesi. A batter latter, Bubba Starling singled home his second run of the series to tie the score at one. The Rocks would eventually load the bases without another hit in the frame. A hit by pitch and a walk loaded them up, but Kyle Kraus came in and got Ramon Torres to ground out to end the threat.

Both teams would threaten in the seventh and eight but nothing came of it. The Blue Rocks put a runner on third in the seventh and eight, with the Sox getting a runner to third in the seventh as well. None would score. Wilmington would end up stranding a runner on third in their final four turns at bat.

In the ninth, Carson Blair would put the Sox up with a solo home run to lead off the frame. Salem put a runner on base but went to the bottom of the ninth up 2-1.
DRIVE

Game Story

Pitching was the name of the game for the Greenville Drive (5-19, 39-54) on Saturday night, as they recorded their fifth shutout of the season and won their second straight game in a 4-0 victory over the Augusta GreenJackets (11-13, 45-47).

In his first start of the season following 19 relief appearances, Jacob Dahlstrand (5-5) gave the Drive everything they were looking for, hurling five and a third scoreless frames while giving up six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The GreenJackets loaded the bases with one out in the sixth to chase Dahlstrand from the game, but Drive ace reliever Jonathan Aro entered and promptly blew away a pair of hitters for strikeouts to extinguish the threat. Aro allowed just one hit over the final three and two-third innings with five punchouts to record his sixth save.

The Drive put together more than enough offense to support the outstanding pitching efforts. Manuel Margot led off the fifth with a solo shot over the Green Monster, his eighth long ball of the year, to put the first run on the board. Later in the frame, Franklin Guzman doubled to left, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch.

Two more runs in the seventh gave the Drive some insurance. Tim Roberson reached second base on an error to begin the inning, and Margot's double to right brought him in. Two batters later, Guzman laced another double to make the score 4-0.

Guzman and Margot each collected two hits for Greenville. Ty Ross was the lone Augusta hitter with a two-hit night.
SPINNERS

Game Story

It was Star Wars Night at LeLacheur Park and the force had to be with someone, as both the Lowell Spinners and Mahoning Valley Scrappers entered the game with lengthy losing streaks. Unfortunately for the Spinners, it was the Scrappers who snapped their eight-game losing streak with an 9-3 win over the Spinners in front of 5,226 fans Saturday evening.

The loss was the Spinners fifth straight and eighth in their last nine games.

For the first time during the home stand, it was the Spinners who jumped out to an early lead on a Jordan Betts run-scoring single after Bryan Hudson stole second and advanced to third when the throw by Francisco Mejia went wide, giving Lowell a 1-0 lead.

Mahoning Valley (9-20) answered promptly in the top half of the second inning. After two quick outs Taylor Murphy worked a walk and Juan De La Cruz followed with a double to left. Yonathan Mendoza delivered a single to left, plating both, giving the Scrappers a 2-1 lead.

The Scrappers would add a run in the fourth inning when Mario Alcantara struggled in his lone inning of relief. It was again a Murphy walk that started the rally as De La Cruz followed with a single to right. After Mendoza struck out, back-to-back walks plated a run to move the deficit to 3-1.

Lowell (12-17) pulled even in the fifth inning. Jordan Procyshen led off with a double, advancing to third on a Deiner Lopez single. After Lopez stole second, Raymel Flores brought home Procyshen with a sacrifice fly and a throwing error scored Lopez to even the score.

The Scrappers however would not be denied, rallying for three runs in the seventh against Brandon Show. Show hit Greg Allen, the first batter he faced and a one-out single by Bradley Zimmer scored Allen to give Mahoning Valley the lead. A double by Mejia and single by Murphy plated two more and the Scrappers were in cruise control from there.

The Spinners would bring the tying run to the plate in the seventh in the man of Jordan Betts, popped out to end the threat and Mahoning Valley tacked on an insurance run in the eighth and two in the ninth for a 9-3 final.
