It's just a matter of time.  Mid-June at the latest.

He finished 2 for 5 and his average dropped to .405.

Trying to imagine a major leaguer having a full season of the kind of success Mookie has had in a little over a month, blows my mind.  It's given me a new respect for Williams' '41 season.  Good god!

STORIES

PAWSOX

Game Story

Daniel Nava delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning and Alex Wilson retired all five batters he faced to finish the game as the Pawtucket Red Sox defeated the Indianapolis Indians, 3-2, Sunday afternoon in front of 4,091 fans at McCoy Stadium to earn a split in the four-game series.

Allen Webster earned his third consecutive quality start for Pawtucket but was not involved in the decision as the PawSox (18-13) avoided their first series loss of the season. Indianapolis (19-10) continues to hold the best record in the IL and will host Pawtucket for four games next week.

Nava's game-winning hit came against Indians reliever Cody Eppley (0-1) following a leadoff double by Ryan Roberts. Roberts had also singled and scored in the sixth against starter Jay Jackson when Garin Cecchini singled him home to snap a 1-1 tie.

Webster allowed two runs, each earned on seven hits and 6.2 innings pitched. It was the longest outing of the season for a PawSox hurler, but ended on a tough note when Chris Dickerson's two-out RBI single against the right-hander tied the score at in the seventh.

Chris Hernandez (1-2) recorded the final out in the seventh and then the first out in the eighth to earn his first victory of the season. He then gave way to Wilson, who recorded three strikeouts in the five batters he faced and was awarded his third save.

Ryan Lavarnway went 3-for-4 to pace Pawtucket's eight-hit attack, including an RBI double in the third against Jackson that tied the score at 1. Michael Martinez's two-out RBI hit against Webster had opened the scoring in the top of the inning.
SEADOGS

Game Story

The Portland Sea Dogs (17-10) scored three runs early and Mike McCarthy (2-2) fired six strong inning, leading the Sea Dogs to a 4-1 victory over the Binghamton Mets in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. After losing the first 2 games of the series, the 'Dogs took the final two games, and have not lost a series on the road this season.

McCarthy's only blemish came in the fifth inning, yielding an unearned run on a bases-loaded infield-single by Wilfredo Tovar. The righty has won two straight starts, giving up just five hits, two walks and fanning six (season-high).

RF Henry Ramos paced Portland's 11-hit attack, going 4-for-4 with a huge two-out RBI single in eighth, giving the 'Dogs a 4-1 lead.

Travis Shaw (2-for-4) had a say in Portland's first run in the opening frame against Rainy Lara (2-1). Mookie Betts led off the game with a single to right field, extending his on-base streak to 56 regular season games. Shaw ripped a double to right field, but Cory Vaughn bobbled the hit, allowing Betts to score from first base.

Portland responded in the second inning, putting two runs on the board, taking a 3-0 lead. Ramos began the rally with a double and scored on Heiker Meneses' single. Peter Hissey followed with a sacrifice-bunt and Betts delivered again, ripping a run-scoring single to center.

Lara suffered his first loss of the season for the B-Mets, giving up eight hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings.

Binghamton didn't strand a runner during the first 4 innings, but left 10 in the game. Noe Ramirez stranded four runners over two innings to earn his second hold of the season. In the bottom of the ninth, Miguel Celestino gave up two hits with two outs, but retired Brian Burgamy on a fielder's choice to end the game. Celestino has earned both saves in Binghamton.
DRIVE

Game Story

After a few tough days offensively, the Greenville Drive (15-12) hit the ball all over the yard on Sunday, collecting 18 hits in a 12-2 victory over the Augusta GreenJackets (15-15).

Leading the Drive offense was shortstop Tzu-Wei Lin, who went 4-6 with two runs scored. Jantzen Witte joined in on the hit parade with three hits and three RBI, and Zach Kapstein and Jake Romanski also collected three hits. Kendrick Perkins and Jimmy Rider chipped in with two hits apiece, with Perkins driving in three and clubbing a two-run homer.

The Drive took a 2-0 lead in the third inning thanks to Witte's two-run triple against Christian Jones (1-3), and they really pulled away with a six-run fifth inning where they batted around.

Witte started the scoring in the fifth as well, smacking an RBI double to score Rider, who hit a one-out single. Romanski followed with an RBI single that scored Lin, who singled as well. A throwing error plated a third run, and a fielding error brought home a fourth. To cap off the inning, Perkins drove a sacrifice fly to center, and Kapstein lined an RBI single to left.

The runs were more than enough for Jamie Callahan (2-2), who delivered five strong innings for Greenville. He gave up six hits and two runs while striking out five and not allowing a walk.

Augusta scratched across their only two runs against Callahan in the fifth on a fielder's choice and a Christian Arroyo RBI single.

The Drive batted around again in the top of the ninth and scored four more times. After a leadoff walk, Perkins hit a two-run shot, his first homer since joining the Drive on Tuesday. Later in the frame, a wild pitch brought home the Drive's 11th run, and a Rider sacrifice fly scored another.
