This is one of those series where the better team didn’t play well enough to overcome the officiating and statistical variance.
I feel like if you told both teams to go home, take a rest, and come back to Boston a week from now to restart the series at 0-0, we’d quickly be right back in this position.

The team with more talent didn’t play well enough to overcome the officiating and statistical variance. The better team is up 3-0.

For all the shit, the effort tonight has been just so much better. They'd be tied or ahead with even officiating.

50 a half seems to be about what they can do. Throw out weird quarters like the fourth quarter last night and that really seems to be their upside.

Unfortunately, I'm not seeing them holding the Heat to 43 in the second half so I don't think 50 is going to be good enough.

It’s hard not to be utterly demoralized. In consecutive games they’ve entered critical games and played like it was a load management day

This needs to be a Tatum game.
Second half needs to be Game 7 Tatum. First half we got first half Game 6 Tatum. Now is the time for him to step up

Not as much “undrafted” talk from this annoying announce team.

Can we get a solid 7 or 8 minute run of Celtics basketball in the second half, where the D locks in, and the ball zips around on offense until it finds the best shot?

Yeah, that's my feeling too. It's hard to believe, but we're hanging on to this idea of who the Heat is that just doesn't reflect what they are right now. And what they are right now is really good on both ends.

They've lost 3 games in the playoffs. They are tough out every time. They never lull. They work their asses off and if you beat them they go kicking and screaming and don't let you do it easily. They score easy baskets to stop runs, and they rarely give them up.

If Hauser, their 9th best player, is the key to this game, they’ve already lost.
If he makes 2 of the 4 deep ones that Marcus bricked, the game is tied.

He doesn't need to be Michael Jordan to outplay what we're seeing from Marcus and Brogdon right now.

This whole series, playoffs, and season just feels like some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill.

I'd say I've been pretty happy with the effort tn. Turnovers they're always gonna have, i like them competing on the offensive boards, defensively they're getting beat but most of the guys seem to have locked in.

Wow. That is…..awful.

At least Smart can pass and plays with intensity. If Brogdon cant shoot, he’s completely worthless
I usually agree, but Brogdon at least has 3 assists tonight for 8 points and 4 rebounds, Smart has 1 rebound and his defense has fallen off a cliff... now I know there was speculation he hurt his back or hip, but he's been terrible on D this series too. We may need to go White most of the 2nd, and bring in Hauser

I think that the whistle has really hurt the Celtics tonight. Every time they play with real aggression, they get fucked by a bad call.

Smart's defense clearly took a pretty big nosedive most of this season. He's just beaten up in general and on the downside of his career defensively.

Agree on all of this. Brogdon has played well with the ball in his hands and none of the layup lines have been his fault.

I don’t get it. Foster gave LAL every whistle in game 3. Does he think the Heat are losing 3-0?

Maybe? I think you could also argue that their offense first mentality that Coach Joe brought in might be responsible for part of it.

Tend to agree. Celtics may have the more talented players, but Miami has the better TEAM.

The first five minutes of the second half will show if this team was any fight left. If the Heat get this lead to double digits, it’s over.

Maybe he's retiring and wants a couple games to try to distance himself from what an absolute piece of shit league puppet he's been for 2 decades.

In a lot of ways, this was the worst possible matchup for this team. Really well coached, super intense, defensive intensity, clogging the lens. Probably a different story if we are playing the Knicks or the Bucks

I don't think Joe's mentality made Marcus lose all his footspeed and get blown by consistently by mediocre players.
We were the 2nd rated defense this year, we had a good defense.... White was amazing, Tatum played great D... I really don't think coaching has anything to do with Smart's defensive failings, it's age/injury and focus.

Really feels like this will come down to whether or not Joe has the temerity to sit Smart down the stretch in the fourth. It's pretty obvious he's a shell of himself and hurting the team, but Joe sticks with his guys.

Why isn’t focus partly on coaching?

He ain’t wrong.
The team that has been to 5 straight ECF, that won 2 game 7s last year en route to the finals, a g7 this year after being down 3-2 entering the other teams home turf??

It is a stupid narrative. They demonstrate inconsistency throughout the year. But I guess they were mentally weak in all those g7 wins.
The other team gets payed a lot to play and variance is real. Is Caleb Martin ever gonna be Steph Curry 2.0 again? Possible but even Steph wasn't at 50% or so.

If Martin / Strus / Vincent regress to 30 something % on 3s if they make the finals, are they suddenly not mentally tough? This armchair stuff is absurd. I'll also look for Charles' or other SoSHers clinical quals to make this call.

CJM was thrown into a shitty situation. But he really has to try some adjustments. Almost like when PP didn't excel in G1, CJM got a little shy on major moves
