Happy to see the theory that Spo is so great he could take 5 G Leaguers and make them competitive get debunked. He’s an elite coach but he’s not god. Even with Jimmy this isn’t close.
He’s also not won a championship without LeBron

well, not really. the celtics played him straight up with very little help. that’s as good as conditions will be for bams one on one game. he’s just not that good
I only mean that he had very little help and for most of the series he was the only one out there putting out max effort.

When has Riley ever won without the best player in the NBA?
Spoelstra has been called a genius probably more than any other coach ever.. but his teams are mediocre in the regular season and they always lose in the post season… the point is he hasn’t won anything without LeBron but still gets called a genius year after year

his team lost by 20+ three times this series

edit: JM gets more criticism when his team loses a game than Spoelstra has got his entire career.

They did win the East twice in the last 4 years and nearly won it a 3rd time

Yeah.. I know I was wrong about the regular season to an extent.. but he has won basically as many championships as doc rivers and people talk about him like he’s Auerbach

In 16 years he's been to the finals 6 times and won 2 titles, that seems pretty damn good for "always losing in the postseason". Not counting this year since the Bucks are still alive Doc has coached 24 years and been to the finals twice with 1 title. If he was fired today he'd be #1 with a bullet for every team with a coaching vacancy, and most that didn't have one would probably fire their coach if they could get him.

Yeah the Heat got smoked in this series, of course they did, look at the lineup they ran out and who they were facing. The Celtics had infinite mismatches no matter who was on the court, and Miami had 0 players that could generate their own offense beyond Bam going 1 on 1 in the paint. Spo had 0 adjustments that could possibly have worked beyond pray the 3s go in like they did in game 2.

He won in 2012 and 2013 when he had LeBron and Wade and also lost twice in 2011 and 2014. Got smoked by Denver last year and made it into the finals in 2020 in the bubble. It’s been over a decade since they’ve won a title. Tatum and Brown get railed on for failing to win a title in the last five years.

He had amazing injury luck with the Cs for most of those LeBron years or just had Wade break Rondo’s elbow.. which is another reason he has one more title than Doc. I get it.. he went to the finals a lot with Wade and LeBron.. Kerr isn’t thought of in the same way.. and his team actually won three years ago.

I get he’s a good coach, but it’s not like he’s won when he didn’t have the two best players on the court.. last year was an outlier.. how Vincent and Martin shot so well is beyond anyone’s understanding. This year his team lost by 20+ in three of five games.. obviously things would be different if Butler wasn’t hurt… but Doc’s record would look a lot better too if his star player wasn’t hurt in almost every one of his playoff runs (Garnett, Rondo, Leonard, GA).

I think so, yes. He'd still look to trade Smart, TL, and Brogdon anyway.
I don't know. First team coming back from 3-0 deficit? My guess if they lose to DEN it's because they don't have anyone to stop Jokic so maybe he looks for a Jokic-stopper instead of KP.

At the end of the day, I think they have a much better team than last year so hopefully it all works out the way it's intended.
