I'm just saying it's a waste. You can waste all you want, just don't pretend you're doing anything but that.
And with both AT&T and Verizon, they have alternative (non-obsolete) plans that can include the phone if you want, or not, and the overall bill is lower as well as granting the option to have the phone subsidized on it or not, with no contracts or early termination fees and more free upgrades. It's better in every way than their old, antiquated contracts. So, yes, you absolutely are overpaying. If you're going to overpay because you like being in the contract, that's a legitimate option if you want to go that route. But the only real reason that makes any sense is if you're doing it to always have access to the latest and greatest. If you're not, then you're just throwing away money for no reason, which is, again, totally your prerogative.
Also, it's not spin, . I used to sell cellphones. Those contracts are designed to screw you over while you beg for more. I was trying to help you get the most out of it. You can politely decline the advice. You don't need to be defensive about it.
