Barring a double play, Mookie will come to bat in the 7th having already gone 1-2 with a 2B, 2BB and his 9th SB.

Just another day at the office.

Edit: My b - Wilkerson just GIDP, so Betts going to lead off the 8th instead.

2nd Edit: Naturally, Betts walks and then swipes his 2nd bag of the day after leading off the 8th despite the pitcher's attempt to keep him close to the bag with three pick-off throws to 1B.  Now 1-2 with 3BB and 2SB for the day.

STORIES

PAWSOX

Game Story

Brandon Snyder's two-out, two-run single in the top of the 11th caromed off the head of Lehigh Valley pitcher B.J. Rosenberg and into shallow right field to give the Pawtucket Sox a 4-2 extra-inning victory over the Iron Pigs Monday night at Coca-Cola Park.

Rosenberg made his way off the field on his own power following the scary incident. The severity of his injury was not immediately known. Pawtucket (15-11) has taken two of the first three in the four-game series after outlasting Lehigh Valley (11-13) in a 3 hour, 41 minute marathon.

Tommy Layne (4-1) pitched the final 2.1 innings for the PawSox to earn a victory for the fourth time in his last five appearances. He sent the game to extras by striking out Koyie Hill with the bases loaded and two out in the ninth, then pitched scoreless baseball in the tenth and eleventh frames.

Rosenberg (0-1) gave up a leadoff single to Brock Holt to start the eleventh, then one out later Daniel Nava was intentionally walked to put runners on first and second. After Ryan Lavarnway struck out Bryce Brentz drew a walk from Rosenberg to load the bases for Snyder.

Snyder's line drive struck Rosenberg and deflected all the way into shallow right, with the second baseman Matt Tolbert nearly making a diving catch before it landed. Holt and Nava scored on the play to give Pawtucket the winning runs, while the Lehigh Valley training staff sprinted out of the dugout to tend to the injured pitcher.

Brentz homered against Iron Pigs starter Greg Smith in the second to start the scoring, but Lehigh Valley tied the game immediately in the bottom of the inning against Allen Webster on Leandro Castro's RBI double.

After each team remained scoreless until the ninth, when Nava scored a go-ahead run from third on a wild pitch with one out against reliever Seth Rosin. PawSox reliever Drake Britton recorded the first two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but allowed four straight to reach then including Tyler Henson's pinch-hit game-tying single.
SEADOGS

Game Story

The Reading Fightin Phils sent the Philadelphia Phillies top pitching prospect, Jesse Biddle, to the mound Monday night at Hadlock Field.

The Portland Sea Dogs countered with Mike McCarthy, entering the game with an 8.59 ERA.

But Biddle got beat again by the Sea Dogs, while McCarthy was dealing in an 8-6 victory.

McCarthy (1-2) used his control to limit the Phils to three hits, no runs and no walks over six innings. He struck out two and went to a three-ball count only twice.

“He was fantastic in the zone,” catcher Matt Spring said. “He commanded both sides of the plate with his fastball and that opened it up for his other pitches.”

McCarthy added cut fastballs, sliders, curveballs and split-fingered fastballs. Everything worked.

“What we needed with our bullpen depleted,” said Sea Dogs Manager Billy McMillon, who has a bullpen that pitched 13 innings the previous two days.

On Monday, two relievers gave up six runs, but Portland’s offense provided enough cushion.

The Sea Dogs had seven hits and took advantage of eight walks and four Phils errors.

Mookie Betts again provided the lead-off spark, reaching base four times on a double and three walks, stealing two bases, and scoring three runs. Travis Shaw singled in two runs.
SALEM

Game Story

Jonathan Roof and Kevin Heller each recorded three hits and three RBI, Corey Littrell authored his third quality start in five outings, and the Salem Sox survived Winston's late rally to surpass the Dash 11-8 on Monday evening at LewisGale Field. Delayed by rain for 73 minutes at the outset, the Sox were quickly down 2-0 in the top of the first, but then scored nine straight runs and eventually built an 11-3 lead. In the top of the ninth, the Dash had the tying run at the plate with two outs, but Grant Buckner grounded into a fielder's choice to wrap up the long night at the ballpark.

Littrell struck out seven in six strong innings, permitting three runs on just three hits to earn the win and improve to 2-1. After the Dash plated a pair in the first, Winston did not score again until Jason Coats jacked a solo homer with two outs in the sixth.

The Sox offense took advantage of a Winston miscue to break the seal in the bottom of the first, but it was a big third inning that swayed the momentum to Salem. Down 2-1, Mario Martinez reached on an error to start the third. After the next two hitters made outs, the following six Salem batters reached base. Roof blasted a three-run homer, while Reed Gragnani hammered an RBI triple. Aneury Tavarez also smacked an RBI single to complete the scoring in the third.

Salem added two more in the fourth, with Tim Roberson launching a two-run double to the gap in left-center. Up 8-2, the score became 9-2 when Heller crushed a solo homer to lead off the fifth. Coats' solo shot in response made it 9-3, but Heller retaliated with a two-run double in the last of the sixth, stretching the lead to eight.

Winston gradually crept back into contention, with one in the seventh, two more in the eighth, and two in the ninth, but the most notable event of the late innings came before the eighth inning began. As Dash outfielder Courtney Hawkins was preparing to lead off, he began jawing with Salem catcher Jayson Hernandez. Hawkins shoved Hernandez and was immediately ejected by home plate umpire Travis Godec. The benches and bullpens cleared, but calmer heads prevailed and the emotion fizzled quickly with no one other than Hawkins receiving an early exit.
