The PawSox walk off with the win in Game 1 on the only run of the contest. Lavarnway led off the last of the 9th with a single and Justin Henry ran for him. He advancing to 2nd on a balk with Cecchini at the plate, and old friend/Bisons manager Gary Allenson was tossed while arguing the call. An HBP put Garin at 1st, and Christian Vazquez singled to right to score Henry.

First stellar outing of the season for Ranaudo (6 IP, 2 singles, 2 BB, 5 K, 62 of 92 pitches for strikes). He'd yielded 14 R (10 ER) on 18 H, 8 BB & 16 K over his three prior starts. Britton (1 IP, 1 single) & Resop (2 IP, 1 single, 2 BB) were solid in relief, the latter picking up the W (3-0).

Victorino went 0-for-3, fouling out on a diving grab near the 1B dugout by Buffalo's 1B Jared Goedert, grounding out to 3rd, and flying out to the LF warning track before yielding to Alex Hassan in the T-7th. He looked pretty good sprinting down the line on the ground-out.

We went to the first game, didn't realize Mugsy got tossed, as he went back to the dugout pretty calmly. Winning (only) run came on a 3-2 count (1 out) when the Pawsox put the runners in motion, otherwise you just would have had the bases loaded.

Gorgeous day at McCoy, but not even 4000 fans in the place for a scheduled doubleheader. Ranaudo looked good, hitting 94 & 95 on the gun. Off speed stuff was mid 80's. Couldn't see the break on pitches as we were out towards LF.

Zero balls hit to Victorino, as soon as he left the game there were a few struck in that direction. His fly out to LF would probably been a HR if there was not a strong LF to RF wind all game.

Watched one inning of game two, Hassan at first base misplayed two balls which led to the Buffalo run.

I got that from the game log, so if it's erroneous my apologies.

EDIT - Also, NESN showed some of the highlights after Sox-Os, just so you won't think I was there watching and our paths somehow didn't cross.

He may well have got tossed, then continued to chat with the umps.

And I know you weren't there, you could count the crowd at the beginning of game 2.

That, and (in the words of Elton John) I'm not one of those who can easily hide.

Nice outing for Mike Augliera so far: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K, and a very economical 84 pitches (59 for strikes). He just coaxed a GIDP to end the 6th after walking ex-Sea Dogs slugger Reynaldo Rodriguez.

Mookie's 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored, now hitting .442. He was called out on strikes to end the 5th (against ex-UC-Irvine ace Matt Summers), stranding runners on 1st & 3rd.

Seems he's not perfect after all, but I still expect him to rise from the dead tomorrow.

He did definitely get the heave-ho, before the second ump came in to back up the home plate ump who'd tossed him.

Salem's nursing a 1-0 lead in the T-7th behind some great work by Justin Haley (6 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 6 K). He just got into into some trouble in the 6th with a leadoff single and an HBP, but he buckled down to strike out the side.

A David Chester sac fly scored Matty Johnson with the lone run in the 4th.

Greenville & Savannah in a rain delay knotted 3-3 with the Gnats due to hit in the B-6th. Craptastic outing for Mario Alcantara (3 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 5 BB, 3 K). Myles Smith has backed him up with a pair of shutout innings (2 H, 1 K).

Jake Romanski & Wendell Rijo are each 2-for-3 with an RBI, and are now hitting .326 and .333 respectively.

EDIT - The umps have now suspended the game after attempting to play through. It'll resume with Savannah's Jeff Glenn on 2nd base after a double to lead off the B-6th.

Figures. Mike McCarthy relieves him to start the 7th and promptly surrenders a solo shot to the first batter he faces (Matt Koch). Matty Ott now on to pitch after a McCarthy 1-out walk, and he gets a fly out before whiffing old friend Tony Thomas to end the inning.

MOOKIE!!! Solo shot in the 9th off Summers makes it 6-1 Sea Dogs.

He's now 4-for-5 on the night, and sporting a .453/.492/.717/1.209 line. Unreal.

Salem adds an insurance run in the T-9th after Jonathan Roof walks, an error on a pickoff attempt sends him to 3rd, and David Chester singles him in for his 2nd RBI of the night.

Kyle Stroup on to try to close it out after Madison Younginer held the line with 2 shutout relief innings (2 H, 1 K).

Errr... emphasis on "try". He's loaded the bases on 2 walks and a bunt single with no outs.

EDIT - And now a swinging strikeout...

EDIT - A comebacker to the pitcher and they get the force at home. Bases still loaded.

EDIT - A fly out to left ends it. Always an adventure with this kid...

Sadly, he was hidden behind the enormous Erik Kratz when he made the actual gesture.

Kratz also made it a challenge to get a photo of his old teammate where he didn't look too tiny.

I can't help but wonder what Kratz was saying to Shane, but I'd like to think it was something completely smart-assed that cracked him up. Great shot, Kelly!

It's one of my favorite aspects of the minors--watching young umps learn to face veteran coaches. (Except, of course, when the young umps have issues with where the photographers need to stand in parks with no photo pits.)

I could be wrong--wasn't close enough to hear--but my impression from the gestures in this case was that Allenson was arguing that the ump didn't call the balk until someone in the PawSox dugout yelled that it was a balk.

Snarky reference to something that happened at McCoy, specifically--cleared up now, I hope. McCoy has nothing specifically designated as a photo pit; you're in the far end of the dugout, trying to stay out of the video guy's way, or at the grounds crew gate. As a result, they let those of us who shoot specifically for the PawSox take on-field positions against the wall. I've run into umps with attitude a couple of times. (I understand, to a point--obviously no one wants a play where "photographer interference" has to be puzzled out. But when there's no photo pit, and no space chalked out...)

The expansion of milb.tv is definitely eating into the available space for still photographers. Two-thirds of the designated Hadlock space was taken by video last weekend.

Thanks. I occasionally get media passes at various parks and had not run into that so I was curious.
